The slow start really hurt both UNI and Butler.

Both teams, N IA and Butler, return almost every significant player and should be very good next year.

I am excited about all the Mid Major opportunities next year including the local club.
Just win baby and THEY will not be able to ignore us!
      Go BU!
This does seem to be a rebuilding or down year for the mid's. I do think the mids (including us!) will do a lot more winning next year with the greater experience. I think that since one of the best mids, Butler, is mostly freshmen, it was just not a good year for us, and there are better teams than us. Next year the tide will start turning again!

I honestly didn't have any problems with the officiating.

I caught just a little of the game and I saw UNI get whistled for a foul when it was the UNI player on inside position.....it should have been over the back on purdue....but it was the other way....there were a few others too..I wasn't shocked....but sure is a difficult road to hoe for a mid-major these days.....wow

It was a shame that UNI was paired with a good Purdue team. They were not a Sweet 16 team but probably at least another game good. Tough seeding IMO and I am also not to impress with the refs in these games so far. I thought last nights game agains AP was probably one of the best reffed games I've seen in awhile.

                Officiating

Some questionable calls in the UNI game but I had the feeling watching this game that UNI seemed to be waiting for fouls to be called and non came - like they get in the MVC! O'Rear (sp?) seemed to be in his element though, hacking and wacking and getting away with it like a kid in a candy shop!

SFP - agree that last nights game was the best ref'd BU game i saw this year, however our execution might have been the worst I've seen!

Braves fans like the officiating last night but I bet Austin Peay fans didn't like it much. The Gov's had 24 fouls whistled on them compared to 11 for us. We shot 38 freethrows compared to 11 for them. I wonder if they feel we got the homer calls and the ref's are against them. Couldn't blame them much if they felt that way. They could be saying the tournament wants BU to stay alive to take advantage of BU's large gate. I would be wondering the same thing if I was them.

We hate it when these things work against us, but love it when they work for us.

Good teams that are more talented, athletic, and aggressive generally go to the line more (look at Duke). IMO, we were obviously WAY better than APU. The fact that Coach Les chose to experiment with line-ups and play youngsters, as well as the fact that we generally played poorly was the only thing that kept this game close.

I agree with T! I even said as much in the Chat and I was not looking at the reffing through my koolaid glasses. I just thought they let the game be played by the guys with the uniforms. It had a pleasant rhythm to it.

My seats are right behind the coach for the visiting team, and if this was true, the coach of Austin Peay, Dave Loos, certainly didn't show it.
I never saw any calls that he showed disagreement or disgust for.
APSU played a pretty physical game with a lot of bumping and grabbing. Maybe that's how they thought they had to play Theron Wilson to try to neutralize him. The refs allowed the physical play, and unlike most MVC refs, they did not feel the need to make sure every person in the arena noticed them by blowing their whistles all the time.

Good points by Tornado and Dacoach. They did foul alot at the end. My point though is we shot 29 free throws in the 2nd half, they shot 2. We shot 2 free throws 2:05 into the half. That is all they shot the whole half.
True we shot a lot in the final 4 minutes (15 if I count right) vs their 2. But that still leaves it 14 to 0 for the other 16 minutes of the 2nd half.
By arguing this though you miss my point.
My point simply was that I hear a lot of *****ing about the officiating being terrible. Now he says it is the best officiated game of the year, if we were on the other side we would look at it differently.
Listen, I don't want to get into a pissing contest. I almost didn't even respond to the replies. I just felt the numbers were presented in a way that were misleading.
This thread is now dead as far as I am concerned.
