Three Years Ago Today

What were you doing three years today? It was a Friday and the Braves (Seed #13) are matched up against the Kansas Jayhawks ( Seed #4) in an evening game.

I didn't think much about it and went to Buffalo Wild Wings in E.P. to watch with other BU fans. What a night that was!!

I was at a local watering hole with surrounded by a bunch of obnoxious KU fans asking at the beginning who we were and if we deserved to be in. Well by the end of the night I had a few new friends (non-KU fans) and a bunch of sad KU fans who now knew we belonged!

I was on a flight from LA to STL, returning from my spring break trip to Vegas. The flight attendant saw the four of us wearing our Bradley gear and stated she was an alumni herself. She somehow got us score updates throughout the flight, and we landed in time to watch the final 2 or so minutes.

Then I remember watching the first 10 minutes of the Brad-Pitt game, before being paged out to fight a rather large house fire...

Sitting in a Dave and Busters here in Houston, begging for them to just put the game on one tv... Texas was playing at the same time. They put it on one tv at the bar, I sat next a compliance officer from Texas Southern. No one was paying any attention until half time, then by the end of the game I had all kinds of people watching that one tv and celebrating the best win in my lifetime of being a Bradley Basketball fan.

I had to catch a flight the next Monday and wore a BU shirt and had all kinds of people saying congrats and how they were happy to see Bradley in the sweet 16. The NCAA is way off if they think a non power conference team winning isnt interesting or good for the tourney.

Was at Gorman's with a few friends ... by the end of the night, the place was standing room only (times about 10) and people were calling their friends in Vegas and other Spring Break locations going "I'M IN PEORIA ... RIGHT BY BRADLEY!" And their friends were jealous.

I was in the stands at the Palace at Auburn Hills.

Same place I am now, at least during the day. I was at work, just a mess all day with anticipation and excitement. Watched the game at a friends house with 4 or 5 other people. Started to really believe we were watching something special when Will made the shot to end the half. I stated that if Bradley won, I was leaving the next morning for Detroit. BU did, and I did. Had a great time in Detroit, front row behind the basket to watch BU take down Pitt.

At The Palace in Auburn Hills watching St. Patrick O'Bryant on St. Patrick's Day in person... didn't know at the time I'd be witnessing some awesome BU Basketball history... wow, what a weekend that was!

I remember it like it was last week...
many of us were at the pregame party........what a great and memorable weekend that was...

I was with a good friend and some of his youngsters...took in the pregame party and then great seats at the Palace...sat next to Will's mom...what a wonderful time that was.....thank you T!

At this point in the day I think I was arriving up in Detroit and checking into the hotel. Funny story about that was that some Iowa Fans were in line in front of us asking if they could check out early since they had just been upset on a last second 3 by Northwestern State. What a great day that was in Detroit. Obviously later in the night, we had to make a change to our reservation with the hotel to spend an extra night up there.

I was holed up in my new apartment in Kansas City, Mo., with my wife, rooting hard for the Braves and looking forward to seeing the KU alums in my office on Monday morning.

As is custom on the third friday in march, I left work about 1030, stopped at a liquor store for some supplies, and ventured over to a buddies house to watch the tournament and eat fried chicken....We've been doing this for years, but this was the first time we had a vested interest in one of the games, as you can imagine by the time the BU game started none of us were feeling any pain...I'll never forget when one of my buddies leaned over to me in the second half and said "Holy ****, I think we actually have a shot at this." After the game was over I ventured over to Emmit's pub, at the time there was a large contingent of Peorians working there, both at the door and behind the bar, what a feeling it was walking up to the front of the line ripping open my jacket to proudly display my Bradley Tshirt, and have the bouncer yell go braves, hug me, and let me skip the line. What a night, too bad it's not to be repeated this year.

haha yes yes there were three of Wills family members there......
Sommerville's sat behind us and the Adams in front of us if I remember right....my hands hurt from all the high fives...
one of the special times for me was when I got a big ole hug from Will's mom and I believe his sister....they were impressed with all the BU faithful that made the trip.....

I was busy explaining the segment wins process to a group of older fans at the Palace, only to be asked at each tv timeout if we won "the segment". At least they caught on! I then stared at the 77-73 scoreboard in disbelief, then went back to the Big Buck or whatevr its called brewery and got stupid.
