League Record 7 Men's Teams Earn Post-Season Bids

  • #2
Well a nice way to spin the postseason. Can't do anything else considering the situation.

According to this there is no tv for the CIT. Has this been confirmed yet because I thought Fox College Sports is showing some of their games.

From the tourney website, it sounds like Fox College Sports is showing the championship game only.

FCS has rights to all the games if they want them, but only the championship game is locked in.
They may decide to do other games, hopefully, we should know soon, but I don't expect these first round games to be televised..

Thanks for the info. Hopefully they will get a few of these games televised for us out-of -towners.

There's also a record number of opportunities.

Kind of like how we've heard BU has won 20-plus games for three straight seasons.

When you're averaging 35 games over a season, then you should not be satisfied with just 20 wins. I say 25 is a good mark to shoot for now!

Not sure why this gets brought up 100% of the time it's mentioned that Bradley gets 20 wins....it is obvious you are trying to cheapen just about anything that's ever said good about BU....why do you do it?

so what's worse...playing a Top 100 schedule and getting 22 wins...or playing a 300th best schedule and getting 25 wins and your schedule hurting you big time come selection Sunday?
You didn't quote my post, but I will most definitely say that 20 wins when you play 38 games is not too impressive. In my mind, there's a big difference between 20-18 and 25-13.

It's obvious I'm trying to cheapen anything good about BU? That's a pretty strong accusation.

Look, telling a recruit you've had three straight 20-win seasons and been to three straight postseasons is a nice tool and all, but they're facts that have a good bit of spin to them. Anyone who followed last year's team knows that it was anything but a "good" 20-win season. There were injuries, suspensions resulting from self-inflicted problems, an arrest, ugly home losses. If not for a nice run in a third-rate, first-year tournament, everyone would be saying last year was an absolute disaster for a team that was picked to finish second in the league and compete for an NCAA berth. Twenty-win seasons are a nice thing to have, but was it a success? No.

As for your final, question, I'd want to be in A position to have shot at a bid come Selection Sunday. FWIW, in the scenario you reference, the latter team had a better shot than the former each of the last two years.

I think the proper analogy would be the 1,000 yard running back in the NFL. That accomplishment lost some of it's luster when the NFL expanded the number of games.

Scouter, I think that we look at some things in a slightly different manner. Like you, I am not thrilled with the CBI or the collegeinsider tourneys. I saw a young team this year that overcame a lot of injuries etc which leaves us with a lot of promise for the next few years. And...to answer a question in a previous post, I would rather have a top 100 schedule any year. We will be better off in the long run.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

there are no asterisks...and there is no special discussion on records obtained in 18-game season to throw cold water on those records as if somehow cheaper.
Of course there isn't an asterick. But what makes something "special" is that not many people do it.

1,000 yards is 1,000 yards. Just as 20 wins is 20 wins. But the more NFL players do the former and college teams do the latter it becomes less and less special.

To me, as I've said before, it comes down to the 18-game MVC schedule. That hasn't changed in the last 10-15 years. The teams haven't changed recently. That is a pretty consistent barometer as to where you are versus your peers. Your 18-game record and wins in the league trump everything else--IMO.

Beni, I don't have any problem with how this year's team performed. I was just referencing last year's team.

Sure...but the original analogy was for stats for a year not for a HOF career...

If you look at HOF career stats, then Jim Brown's rushing stats have to be regarded as a far greater accomplishment than Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, and Barry Sanders. imo And I am not taking anything away from Smith, Payton, or Sanders.

I think that the bar has been raised in both sports. 1,400-1,500 yards for an NFL rb and 24-25 wins for college basketball.
