  • Peoria 1A/2A basketball playoffs

Just FYI, many fights breaking out outside the Civic Center and on Main street. Crowd of about 150-200 breaking up into many small fights on Main St, Madison st, in the parking decks. PD breaking out pepper ball guns and K-9's. Not sure which fans the schools are from but there throwing it down.

Things have quieted down for now. It could of been either school fans or possibly hoodlums that were at the Madness Experience. I think that closed at 9 or 9:30 and they were clearing people out.

Is that article 5 years old? If so it sounds like those teams have a quite a history

                K-9's and Pepperball?

                Wow.

That would have been real interresting to see. I was working out late at the RiverPlex and afterwards thought I would cruise through Downtown to see what the action was like. I was amazed at the police presence and Jefferson street was blocked off. Jason911 from what you report though there seems to have been a reason for all this.

By the way, here is the IHSA site with the final results and box scores for all the games--

Oh come on! What's with the epidemic of fights at high school basketball games lately?

I believe someone got shot and killed at a high school game somewhere in Chicago about a month ago.

This has got to stop quick!

                      This kid is worth watching

Seton Academy of South Holland dominated previously unbeaten Winnebago 83-59. Unlike any other school in Class 1A or 2A, Seton has several Division 1 scholarship kids- Tony Nixon (signed with NIU), D.J. Cooper (transfer from Hales Franciscan- committed to Ohio), and Jordan Walker (transfer from Champaign Central who was recruited by SIU and is still uncommitted).
But the most impressive player yesterday was a relatively unknown kid- center Corbin Thomas. He is 6'6", 210, and is really athletic and built strong. He was 9-9 from the floor, had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. He had 23 in their sectional win, and 25 points in their supersectional win against Hales Franciscan. He is a senior and averages about 12 ppg and 8 rpg, mainly because they have so many kids who like to shoot that Thomas rarely shoots the ball. He has stayed under the radar because he didn't play his junior year because of a knee injury, missed AAU ball, and has just dveloped his senior year.
Thomas is not listed anywhere among the recruiting sites, and apparently has not gotten any D1 interest. The article below says he has had interest from Florida Southern, Lewis University, Wagner and Wisconsin-Parkside.
He reminds me of a much stronger version of Isaiah Martin, who is at Indiana State. This kid, and the Seton team are worth watching. I think Thomas will come away from this tournament with some new offers.

                      Articles about Corbin Thomas-

If you want to watch this kid, Seton plays Massac County at 8:15 tonight for the title in Class 2A. They are likely to be the next 2A state champion.

Kind of sad watching the public school kids trying to play against an obviously recruited private high school team. Make these cheaters play in their own tournaments.....

It's a joke, they have beaten teams in state.

                              80-37...70-37...64-57...64-49...and 69-52

Is this the real spirit of the IHSA? Shame on everybody involved, I hope it makes you feel like you have really accomplished something by doing this.
