A few random season in review points (pending our tertiary tournament appearance):
The good:
>I think Coach Les did a great job with a team that was unexpectedly undermanned after two key injuries. Once again, he proved he could improvise and put a competitive team on the court in spite of unfortunate roster circumstances. The only better year may have been the season after POB left when he found himself with a roster full of guards and an offense that was geared for at least some post input.
>Theron Wilson...became the team leader that he had to be in light of AW's injury...showed that he was more than just a leaper/athlete.
>SM took the next step of his development...continued to prove that you don't have to be a great athlete to be effective...I still say he's a better "2" than point...
>EM proved that he could absolutely be a 1st team all Valley performer by his Jr. year...if he and SM only had some wing players who could shoot the 3 ball...
>Taylor Brown's value per minutes played
>WE's flash in Florida
The bad:
>BU suffered from inconsistency all year...DD and CR would look like studs one night and then not show up the next...should be expected from frosh...but not Jrs...
The ugly:
>UMKC game...enough said
>DC's inexplicable lack of awareness of where his opponent was at when rebounding/defending
All in all...it was a good season where I believe we overachieved in light of the circumstances. We'll go into next year as the 4th best team in the Valley behind CU, UNI and ISU...with a legitimate outside shooting threat in AW...at least two legit post players and great depth. Maybe the deepest team in the Valley. In the mean time, lets make a final four appearance in whatever tourney we get selected for!
