ISU really FUBAR'ed this game. UNI shouldn't have had a chance. Poor execution by ISU in the final 1:20. I was really going for ISU, and I do feel bad for them. I don't like that Lucas O'Rear guy. He's a streetball thug.
Funny you say that cuz me and my friends just got done discussing how we need a Lucas O'Rear type guy.
We are way too soft. Those two teams both brought the noise today.
1) I, too, believe there should have been a shot-clock violation at the end of regulation leaving 1.4 secs (if I recall correctly). At least it should have been reviewed. This is a Championship game with everything on the line... even if it looked like the ball mighta grazed the rim, it shoulda been reviewed. But it wasn't.
2) Too much O? He was superb draining some l-o-n-g shots making the ISU run. But I think that's when ISU shoulda played with that... played off that... UNI might try to overplay him... let him become the target and dish to someone else.
3) More about O. He went out in OT... looked to be cramping, had a shoe off getting a massage and downing some gatorade. ISU went on a run. I noticed how much better ISU was able to play as a team and attack and score. And so did the announcers. They said more than once something about "all this while... (O is on the bench)." It just seemed they played better as a team while O was on the bench. Then he came back with like 2:23 left, ISU ball and a 3pt lead (I think). The rest is history.
4) Even more O. Someone mentioned the error by Sampay that mighta been an important score if he'd taken an offensive rebound right to the hole (yet, he may not have known he was SO open). But I also thought it was a heads up kinda play to maybe work some clock. And I think that's when O launched a long 3 from the corner 10 seconds into the shot clock. So not sure if I blame Sampay more for not going to the hole right away or O for taking a quick long range shot.

Nice post Mob....I alluded to this on a post on another thread. I think that O's missed 3 shot from the corner with plenty of time on the shot clock hurt ISU more than Sampay passing up the inside shot that he may or may not have know how open he was.
Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I was at the game and that was exactly the type of shot that O was taking and making in the 2nd half. If it wasn't for him ISU had no shot in the game. He also was the primary defender on Ahelegbe in the 2nd half and pretty much shut him down until he let him get away on UNI's last possession. I told my dad at the end of regulation that this was the most exciting 48-48 game I have seen for a long time. It did seem like ISU hit the wall with around 2:30 to go in overtime and UNI once again found a way to win. Very disappointed with the attendance. Would have been a bigger crowd if Creighton had been playing as they had far and away the biggest fan base. They also were far and away the most rudest and obnoxious fans. I never thought I would pull for ISU to win against anybody but I loved it when they just stomped a mud hole onto Creighton. Of course I wouldn't have had to do that if the clock operator had started the clock on time in the Creighton/WSU game. WSU fans are already looking forward to when Creighton comes to their home court. There is a lot of hatred for each other. There was a whole section of WSU fans who came to the Saturday games just to heckle Creighton and cheer on ISU. Ushers had to escort fans from both sides out. Glad to have seen UNI won but would have liked to have seen the O and O show in the big dance. Of course I really would have liked to have seen BU win more than 1 game again. As much as I enjoy watching the whole tournament I'm getting a little tired of not seeing us play for the championship. Fortunatly I'm a Cubs fan so I'm used to waiting until next year.
I like Osiris's game but they could have drawn up a much better play then heave a long 3 even though he has made those previous. The odds of him doing that again was pretty big. He should have drove around his guy or pass it inside were the bigs on both teams seem when there was 1 on 1 coverage never missed. I thought regardless of O's big shots ISU should have gone to their bigs more and make UNI foul them. They also took their foot of the pedal once they caught up instead of trying to keep pressuring them that seemed very successful. Next year I hope we try to pressure UNI for 40 minutes and speed the game up. They did not handle the pressure very well.

I can't understand why ISU was taking so long on that last shot. They did the same thing at the end of regulation.
I will say this. Personally, I was rooting for ISU. I remember several ISU fans coming over to this board and wishing us luck in '06, and I'm not above doing the same thing today. Plus, I wanted to see another team from Illinois make the tournament. (I personally like seeing NW's lifetime futility continue).
The thrill of March victory isn't the only thing that makes college basketball special -- so does the agony of March defeat. On Sunday, Illinois State knew agony.

O took the shot 22 seconds later so not too bad.. In any event it seems to me with a 1:23 or so left and three point lead you would want the tw0 points for a five point lead and make it two possession
I haven't read many of these posts except the few that knock on ISU...and I don't mind it too much because I still hate ISU
Exactly--and I love knocking the Birds--keep it up, and I will always hate them too--All of BU nation is happy that there is no NCAA again for ISU--yes, an ISU loss is almost as good as a BU win--HA HA!! We are gonna dominate you and the Valley next year!! ISU is a bunch of losers...have fun in the NIT that nobody cares about

My wife and I sat right behind the student section all weekend and as much as I like DA as a coach I don't care if CU ever wins again in STL. Their fans were the rudest & most obnoxious fans possible. They were sitting in our seats when we came back for the evening session and the language & the alcohol was terrible. (ended up going back to motel and wathing it on tv and yes WSU got ripped at the end of the game which made Saturday afternoon so much more rewarding even if it was isu) The security really put a strick restriction on them on Saturday afternoon. In fact one of CU's students started cussing and was told to stop or he would have to leave. We were not sure if they cut off the sale of beer to the students Sunday but none of the UNI students were drinking and at one point a vendor headed their way and security booted him out of that area. Never sat that close to the student section and really do not care to ever again but it was a great seat to watch the game from yesterday.
Another thing I noticed was how UNI's players all rebounded the ball. There was no way someone was taking it away from them as they all curled it into their bodies. Our players need to learn how to do that especially around the basket-it would mean a lot less balls betting stripped from us and the other team having easy layups like they do so often.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

There are going to be a lot of unhappy students if they stop allowing alcohol in the student sections
