Great teams??? There are zero great teams in there. There are only a select few teams in there that I do not feel embarassed playing in a post season tourney against.

I would imagine he meant teams with basketball names. Last year we beat some well known basketball teams in the CBI. They just didn't have their normal season. Wouldn't mind playing in the CBI again.

Can't we at least get decent refs for the Valley tournament?

Don't get me wrong, we didn't play well in the second half, and I don't like to blame the refs for a loss, but they certainly didn't help.

The refs were fine...watch any game and you can complain about the refs...

The refs may have affected the game making so many calls. However of the calls that looked like they were missed, I think we were better off than Northern Iowa. I don't think that was the problem.

My guess is they would say the same about us since we seem to be closer to the bottom of that "embarassing" list.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

What game did you guys watch? The refs decided the type of game in the first 1/2 that was going to be played. In other words our guys had to be cautious early on not to be whistled for a foul. Our game is more up and down and the refs were calling every little tic tacky foul. I would expect that the two of you have never played basketball in which there have been refs and the ability for them to dictate the game. Please watch a Big East game and watch how the ref usually do not call flops or plays where there are just slight touches. We may not have won the game, UNI hit their shots but the refs really blew it IMO.

Disappointing outcome. The refs did call a close game and in the end I think that UNI adjusted better than we did. Though I think that JL did a good job of getting us to halftime with 3 starters with 2 fouls and tied. Yesterday was just not our day. Now we wait and see if there is any postseason for us.

There was one player for UNI who had an off day shooting the ball- Johnny Moran. Against Bradley, he was 0-4 from three, and missed a couple of them badly. One of his shots fell 2 feet short and to the leaft of the basket, and I did not see anyone block it.
The first half of the season, he was one of the deadliest shooters in the MVC, but his 3-point percentage fell to 34% by the end of the year. I never heard anything about an injury, but he looked bad yesterday.

"type of game"....then we need to adapt. I've read on other boards that SamM was handchecking all the time in other games. Depends on who you root for I guess.

give credit where it's due. UNI beat us. They played well.

I get tired of the ref conspiracy theory. "they are always against us" it just gets old.

And Pete....I've played and been around basketball for many years. I've watched many Big East games. My favorite is Louisville...in fact I was down there last week to see them beat Marquette. There are bad calls every game...Heck if they didn't call some ticky-tack fouls then we would be complaining about no fould being called. did the refs cause UNI to beat us three times this year?

Lefty I thought UNI deserved the win and they hit the shots when it mattered but I still say the officiating is terrible in the Valley, inconsistent and too many times they are part of the game instead of stewards. There is no conspiracy, it's just that the refs in this league are horrible, period.

I don't disagree totally. some are definitely better than others but I don't know that we would find any that would satisfy all of us.
we watch a game with some emotion tied to it so each call takes on a different meaning. We don't make a big deal of a bad call in a game that we don't really care who wins.
I watch a lot of Big Ten games and think the same thing regarding some officials.
People around here couldn't stand Hightower and yet he's regarded very highly...Higgins the same as well as others.

I like Hightower! You know what you are going to get with him and he is also a good communicator during the game to let the players how he sees things. We would be lucky to have him call our games.
