  • Prosser Tonight...

I just got done watching the game between Eureka and Manual. Here are my thoughts on JP:

    - Good shot from inside 15
    - Good floor vision
    - Fairly light on his feet and able to quickly change directions with his body
    - Strong rebounder
    - Good team player
    - Nice soft hands, but strong on the rebound
    - Only bad... a little soft with the ball on occasion as Manual ripped the ball out of his hands several times. BU strength coach needs to work with him on stronger hands with the ball.

Good overall, and I think he can contribute right away. He was a man among boys. Quick side note: Manual had a kid 6'6" soph (Brandon Watson) who was pretty good and could be a player sometime. Also, JP' brother is 6'2" and handled the ball really well. We need to keep an eye on him.

Paris Gulley did not really stick out as a great player tonight. He made a couple 3's early, but kind of dissappeared. He does play nice defense. Maybe he is better at other times.

If he can rebound at the next level, he'll get plenty of playing time.

i agree with you GTD as i also saw the game.

prosser is a great rebounder, great scorer in the post, and muscles people around.

i saw him get stripped once when he had just come down with a tough rebound. i don't think that will be any sort of problem. usually he is very strong with the ball and makes smart passes to the guards.

i also really liked how he always made himself an option to pass to, whether it was during the offense or on the inbound. he made good passes for the most part even after being collapsed on instantly when he touched the ball.

another thing i really liked was the fact that he is aggressive but not out of control or foolish. i didn't see him do anything foolish tonight and i like that in a young big man.

overall, great work by a solid young man.

This is the second time that I have seen Prosser this year. The only thing I will add is that Prosser is a fundamentally sound player who seems to be at the right place at the right time on the court.

            Eureka lost 71-62

Prosser had 27 points and I saw on another thread 14 boards.

We were talking about the number of assists as well. We figured he had around 4-5 assists. I knew one of the scorekeepers at the game tonight which is where I got the info about the rebounds, but forgot to ask about assists and blocks.

I have heard that Jordan is told to go easy on offense and defense until the 4th quarter. He is such a valuable player to Eureka, they cannot afford for him to pick up early fouls. He almost always plays all 32 minutes every game.
In the several games I have seen this year, he shows more aggressiveness in the 4th quarter that he doesn't display in the first 3 quarters. Unfortunately tonight he did not get much help from his guards. They had a lot of trouble with Manual's pressure and could not get the ball inside enough to JP. There were also a ton of turnovers by the Eureka guards. Manual shot well in the first quarter, but not so well after that, but the points off turnovers made the difference. Gulley made his first 3 shots, and had 8 points after just a couple minutes, but I believe he didn't score again after that.

I saw another college head coach in the crowd observing the game.
Former Springfield prep star, University of Iowa star, NBA'er, and now head coach of University of Illinois-Springfield was there- Kevin Gamble.

Yeah, I was there with audacious, and we both agreed on this. He is a very cerebral player. One play that sticks out was when he let off a shot and knew right away that he was going to miss. He got to exactly where the rebound was going to go and got the putback.

The one drawback is that he definitely could have been more aggressive defensively, but your comment makes sense, Coach. It definitely seemed like he stepped it up a notch in the fourth quarter, and I can understand them not wanting him to pick up early fouls. Once he's got more help surrounding him defensively, I don't think it will be an issue.

All in all, I think he will be a perfect fit for us at the four, and I think he will be able to give us minutes right off the bat.

Manual was 20-25 on free throws, while Eureka was just 2-5.
                        Turnovers: Eureka 21, Manual 10.

With this agility and shooting, I can easily see him play the 4 spot and hopes that is where he goes. I could also see a double-post situation with him and WE. That would be nice to finally have the size we have been lacking. Let's face it, the best we have done in the MVC with 3 gurads is 4th place. Sorry, that is not good enough for for me. Time for the BIGS to step in and put a hurt on the VALLEY. Nobody will be able to guard us. This will be great fun.

It was a who's-who as you looked around the gym. Coach Van Scyoc was there as well.

Manual Coach Booth said Prosser was the best player the Rams had faced this season. "He gave us all we could ask for and we didn't have any answer for him in the paint," he said. "It will be pleasure to see him at Bradley next year."
