  • Anthony Parker article

Some interesting things are said. Anthony says "I felt safer [in Tel Aviv] than I did in any major city in the States".

The article also suggests that AP's former team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, will have as difficult a time getting over the departure of Anthony as the Bulls did with Michael Jordan.

Maccabi fans and the country's sportswriters were not so upbeat, however, and were saddened by the loss of the immensely popular player. Haaretz wrote that "the feeling at Maccabi is that its heart is being ripped out.

"Parker is not only the best player on the court, but also the most esteemed player in the dressing room.

"Anthony Parker grew up in Chicago during the magic years of the Bulls, who, nine years on, are only now beginning to get over the departure of Michael Jordan. Maccabi can be expected to recover a lot quicker from Parker's departure, but it will be traumatic all the same."

I actually had the pleasure of speaking yesterday with someone who plays professional basketball in Italy, and he's just now getting ready to go back to Italy in August to prepare for the upcoming season.
He told of meeting and getting to know Anthony Parker, and spoke very highly of Anthony. He said Anthony is an outspoken Christian who gives his time to "faith-based" ministries and to kids' organizations even in Israel.

He also told me he had met Adebayo Akinkunle and they got to know each other because of their Peoria connection.

If anyone wants to hear more, PM me.

I remember when AP was with the Sixers he appeared in the Christian magazine Sports Spectrum and shared his faith. Maybe I'll try to find that article. It's been awhile obviously...
