JL said what we've talked about with refs......getting away from Wed. and Sat. games to get the "better refs" on the off days(Tues and Sun) ....makes sense!
There was a brief discussion about SIU at the end of the show, and Jim Les said they are working on a game plan that he thinks will give Bradley a good chance to beat them. I missed the first minute of the show, but I don't think there was any mention of Dodie Dunson.
They also said there will not be a regular show Saturday- being a game day. They might have their next show on Monday (3/9), or possible the following Monday (3/16).
When they came back after a commercial and Les had already left they commented on Dodie. They said he is getting better everyday with treatment and said he should be near 100% for the tourney. I hope that is true but wonder if they are trying just to put some positive spin on the situation. Get well Dodie we need you!

Many people hate him, but Bob Knight is right. Pay these guys more, and only allow them to do 2 games a week and not in consecutive order, and the officiating will not only improve, but the good ones won't have so many of those bad nights and the newer ones will improve my doing better quality games that are reserved for the top 30 or so officials.
Check out stats.com and you can see the large amount of games some of these guys do. There are many that have done 1100 or more since 1996!
If the NCAA did set limits like that, I don't think it would work.
The good refs would be limited to 2 games per week, and the bad refs would have to be hired more to fill in for those games where better refs were not available.
I think it would just mean more bad refs in big games.
And even if the NCAA did limit the number of games they could do, they would just find other games to officiate, like NAIA, junior college, etc. So I doubt limiting their games would mean they would get any better.
Agree with you DC. Also, the BCS guys would get the best of the best and leave the newer less proven guys for the middle to lower leagues. Meaning, we still would not get good refs. Truthfully, I would like to see them work as the same crew each time out. And then base their performance as a whole. Penalize them together and have them patrol themselves. If a guy on my crew is not that good and it is hurting my crews ability to get good jobs, I am going to have that guy clean up his act. I think there needs to be better accountability for the refs. I don't know how much the refs are criticed or reviewed, but a change in the system is needed.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.
I just feel in the Valley there is accountability. We always say that the MVC does not pay as much as the other BCS schools. We we need to start thinking like the BCS if we want to compete with them and this is an area where the Valley can improve with a bit more of an investment.
