Point- Selection to these these tournament are not like in-season tournaments, where a team's record has nothing to do with it. Those tournament selections are made well before the season begins. It is based on performance during the season.

Of course money is the other major factor, as it always was with the NIT, too, until last year. Nobody denies that. But money cannot buy you a slot in those tournaments if you have a losing record.

Other than the Big East representative, all the teams invited to the CBI had winning records, and the CollegeInsider.com release said they also will invite only winning teams.
No, you said selection was made on record. That isn't the only criteria. It's record and money. Those are the big ones.

I said a winning record is a prerequisite to being selected. I never said it was the only factor. It is always a factor in privately run tournaments, that is a given.

FWIW, the Peoria Civic Center is currently available for the first three rounds of the CBI. However, only the date for the opening game of the championship series is available as the Rivermen are playing on the other two nights.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

That's by design so Bradley would host the first game then the last 2 played on the road so less travel time wearing players out.

That wasn't my original point. My point was that these are actual tournaments that should be mentioned on all networks because they are there. They are real tournaments. Whether or not they survive beyond a year or two is not issue. As long as they are in existence they should be talked about as they are part of the actual college basketball landscape.

Heck, even Fox Sports mentions the NIT even if they have nothing to actually do with running or covering it.

That's why generally I refuse to watch the network and be told what to think and what to like.

ESPN is also creating a website for Chicago/Illinois-only sports so they don't have to waste time on it on their flagship site. To me, that's finally admitting that they don't care about anything outside of the eastern seaboard.

I wish this messageboard had rep or "Thanks" that I could give you for this post. Nicely done!

As a side-note, how much do people think the economy will play into schools participating in these tournaments? It seems like most schools have a pretty tight budget right now and I remember that some schools turned down the CBI for financial reasons last year.

Ok....now how many teams would be playing after the regular season now...128 or so? It's kind of like 20 win seasons don't mean as much as they use....getting to play post season doesn't have the same meaning either

But what difference does it really make? Everyone already knows that these other tourney's don't mean as much as the NCAA or the NIT.

We had this same discussion last year and it seemed pretty unanimous that nobody would brag about Bradley being the CBI Runner-up. As long as people maintain that perspective, then it's only a good thing because it gives underclassmen more experience that they otherwise wouldn't get.
