As taught by, Jim Les.
I will say this up front, I like Jim Les. And please do not turn this into a Jim Les bashing thread, but I have one significant problem with his coaching style...
His timing for using timeouts is terrible. At least 2 separate times tonight, JL used a timeout in what I thought was a terrible time.
Here is a good timeout JL called....
14:08 Jonathan Cox missed Two Point Jumper. 43-37
14:08 43-37 Chris Roberts Defensive Rebound.
13:48 43-37 Chris Roberts missed Two Point Jumper.
13:48 Jonathan Cox Defensive Rebound. 43-37
13:36 Craig Stanley made Two Point Layup. 45-37
13:18 45-37 Theron Wilson missed Two Point Jumper.
13:18 Jonathan Cox Defensive Rebound. 45-37
12:50 Josh Parker made Three Point Jumper. Assisted by Jonathan Cox. 48-37
12:43 Bradley 30 Second Timeout.
This timeout stemmed the bleeding, and allowed us to get back on our feet. This is what the timeout should be used for.
And here are the HORRIBLE timeouts...
8:22 53-46 Sam Maniscalco made Two Point Layup. Assisted by Eddren McCain.
7:42 Adam Templeton missed Three Point Jumper. 53-46
7:42 53-46 Sam Singh Defensive Rebound.
7:31 53-48 Theron Wilson made Two Point Jumper.
7:27 Bradley 30 Second Timeout.
A five point run, and the timeout kills all momentum. The crowd was into it! someone explain to me why you use a timeout in the middle of a 5-0 run when you are on the good side of it? What can't wait until the next dead ball for the media timeout?
2:59 Jonathan Cox Defensive Rebound. 64-65
2:40 Foul on Jonathan Cox 64-65
2:40 Jonathan Cox Turnover. 64-65
2:40 Bradley 30 Second Timeout.
SM takes a charge and we have the momentum in the all important overtime... Once again 11,300 are on their feet screaming, then we silence the crowd ourselves. With the lead and the ball, and plenty of time left, why use a timeout? I know many will say it was to set up a play... And if it was, the play was horribly executed, but we did eventually get a 3 pointer.
My point here is that JL in my eyes often does not use a timeout early enough to stem a run from an opposing team. Then, when we have momentum, JL seems to call a timeout to micromanage the game. My friends and i refer to this as the "wtf timeout", as we look at each other and go "wtf?".
JL is a great coach and i feel he is improving by leaps and bounds, but please, please, please, please, use timeouts in a sensible way.
