Jamal Tatum was finally suspended today by his coach Chris Lowery. His suspension is for violating team rules.
Lowery acted quickly in issuing the suspension. Tatum was cited for DUI in March, a mere 7 months ago.

Exactly as some predicted, the suspension will be for the Saluki's first 3 games, which include 2 meaningless exhibition games against Division II teams, and the first official game which is against a lowly Division III team, Washington U of St. Louis (they play basketball?).
IMO, considering this is not the first time Tatum has been punished for violating team rules and getting into trouble with the law, this short, 3-game suspension against 2 meaningless Div II exhibition teams, and the weakest opponent any MVC team will play this season is nothing short of a joke.

2 other Salukis were suspended, but neither of them will miss any real games.

Doesn't the NCAA take a stand against drinking? I think its quite a hypocrisy that a player has to miss an entire year if he tests + for marajuana, but he can be stoned on booze, get DUI's, or in the case of the other 2 players suspended, be drinking while underage, and the NCAA doesn't seem to care.

If Tatum had killed someone while driving drunk, would Lowery have made the suspension 4 or 5 games and actually made him miss a game that meant something? Didn't Eddie Sutton resign and retire when he got caught for DUI?

ray brown smoking a little weed is less harmful than tatum getting behind the wheel dead drunk and almost killing people. not fair that tatum only misses 3 games while ray has to miss 2 months. will enjoy beating siu even more this year as they are not the type of program we want to be.funny how the ncaa stick their nose in our team's business and leaves their's alone.

My feelings exactly. This is a slap on the wrist, and makes it appear the coach is more interested in winning the games than sending any real message.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

              Not the first couple times.
Only when he sideswiped a couple cars and then hit a telephone pole as he was coming from a team practice and going to the airport.
Even then, his resignation was all prearranged anyway.

By the way, Foster had a DUI in May of 2005, and never got even one minute of practice suspended for that incident.

Just to show how much of a joke this contrived suspension really is, even a couple of the Saluki fans says this on their message boards:
"Tatum's suspension couldn't have worked out better with this schedule."
"this will give us a good look at Armstrong and Acquah, and CC at forward, for one game anyway.
And gives the new guards more playing time the 1st 3 games. A good opportunity to see who can do what
could be why we scheduled Washington U in the first place... "

They actually think it is a great deal!

good point on siu's weak schedule. no wonder they have such an impressive home record they don't play anybody.maybe siu's weak schedule will cost them when the conference season starts as they will not be prepared.

Seriously? The other two guys got hit with one game for drinking in a bar underage?

Here again, is another example of a novel idea.....
something called REAL PUNISHMENT, maybe even a real deterrent to the offense.

This Georgia womens basketball player simply had alcohol in her possession, and is being given a SIX GAME suspension by the team's coach. The coach had the leeway to give her only three games, but he intentionally doubled it to underscore the severity of what she'd done. But I don't expect some coaches to listen, as talent is their interest, not discipline.
And she didn't get a DUI either!!

And here is a story about FIVE players kicked off the team for merely possessing alcohol, and they weren't underage!!
                    KICKED OFF THE TEAM ENTIRELY!!

teams and schools like southern illinois only make us look better by comparison. as we have higher ethics and standards.we are better academically. i really don't care what they do in carbondale.doesn't effect us. we are going to beat them in peoria this year anyway and it will be sweet.hey maybe most of their players will be hungover from all their constant partying.

When I talked with one certain player last night at the Itoo Hall, he repeatedly stated
that one of the focuses of this team is payback for the MVC tourney title loss to SIU.
                        I said "sweeeet!"

yea. they beat us 2 ou of 3 last year but we still won at peoria. plus in st.louis is where tony young took a cheap shot at pob. they play a thug type of basketball much like the old knicks which is border-line illegal. good to hear that our players have the siu game circled.i still think we will beat them as they really don't have anybody who can shoot the ball outside of 15 feet.

I think Young can be lights out at times and can 'take over'.
