  • Sam Maniscalco Update

Sam's Illinois Wolves went 7-1 at the Best of the Midwest AAU tournament in Indianapolis this past weekend.

Seven Wolves players were named to the 15 man All Tournament Team, including Sam Maniscalco and Carlton Fay.
(the others were JaJuan Johnson, Rob Belcore, Demetri McCamey, Evan Turner, and Jon Rice.)

Sam also was named All Tourney at the SPIECE RUN AND SLAM
along with Jon Rice, Evan Turner, and Demetri McCamey.

Here's a current pic of Sam who looks a little different now that he has hair.

The Wolves still have these upcoming events:
July 22-26 Disney Super Showcase (U-17) Disney Wide World of Sports (live NCAA evaluation)
July 22-26 Reebok Big Time Las Vegas, NV (U-16) (live NCAA evaluation)
July 26-31 Best of Summer Pump & Run Classic Los Angeles, CA (U-16) (live NCAA evaluation)
July 26-31 AAU Nationals (U-17) Disney Wide World of Sports (live NCAA evaluation)

Sam will be a brand new freshman when (and if) DRuff is completing his 4th year of eligibility, so I guess we'll be able to see and compare, but I doubt Sam will be close to DRuff until he's had a couple years of playing at the college level.
After it's all said and done, I believe they will both be among the best true PG's the BU Braves have ever had.
DR maybe a better ball handler, but Sam I expect to be a slightly better scorer.

I think Jim Les and Anthony Manuel might have a little something to say about that. With all due respect, isn't it a little unfair to be putting them in that category already, especially a kid who hasn't even played his senior year of high school? Come on. Can we let them just be themselves and play before putting the expectations of the Pomeroy Naismith POY and a 7 year NBA career burden on them?

Just expressing an opinion, and I never said they'd be the best or better than Les or Manuel.

But if the top 20 PG's in BU's history were listed, I think DRuff is already on it, and probably already well inside the top 10.

I will say this - Ruff certainly has the chance to move into that category. The next 2 years will be telling, especially this one. He will be looked to as a leader moreso this year than ever before.

I like the fact that there will be an overlap between the two.

Here is a link to a ChicagoHoops.com report that mentions Sam being selected to the All Star team at the Best of the Midwest event--

He is in some pretty good company with Carlton Fay, Evan Turner, Dimitry McCamey, Rob Belcore, and Jon Rice. Those kids have allsigned or are being pursued by good Div I schools.

                Congratulations Sam!

I will tell you what I like most about reading how well SM is doing....

When BU got his verbal, I thought - What?? Where did he come from. No mention on the radar to a verbal? So I figured, it's the bloodline and he will be a solid player off the bench.

And now, all the praises he is receiving and how his stock continues to rise....

                  Jimmy Les is Da MAN!!!

JL knows what he is looking for. He knows the type of player it takes. He KNOWS!

Not to take away from his staff. They are doing a wonderful job exposing all these players to JL - and he is going in and selling the idea/dream and getting these kids to commit to Bradley.

I want to add to that last post I made a little...

I want to give props to Lil Buescher. From what I witnessed at the banquet, and from what I see at live games...

Very professional. Got a solid head on his shoulders. Obviously able to recognize able talent at DI and knows how to make contact and interact to get them interested. I really believe Lil B is gonna get a head coaching job down the road. In fact, I think he will get one before W McClain will.

(I am ready to get blasted for that last statement - but also ready to defend it)

Thanks Lil B for all your hard work. Keep it up!!
