Assuming we don't win the Valley tournament, where do we land?

How many wins get us into the NIT? CBI? New tournament?

If we avoid any more bad losses (in other words, @Evansville is really the only excusable loss) and win at least one in STL, I think we get some postseason. If we win out to the MVCT final, we might have a very weak NIT bubble.

It's silly to say we won't be playing in any postseason games. Here's how it looks to me:

- If we win our final 3 games and make it to the finals of the MVC tourney, that leaves us with a final record of 20-13. That's probably enough to earn us at least mild consideration for the NIT. We'd probably be one of the final teams in, but it's not out of the question.

- 3 wins and only one win in the MVC tourney would mean a 19-13 record. We'd still have an outside shot at the NIT and would pretty much be guranteed another CBI invite.

- If we lose one of our remaining regular-season games but still make the MVC tourney finals, that would mean we're 19-14 and still CBI-bound.

- Lose at least one regular-season and exit the MVC tourney before Sunday and we're look at 17-14 or 18-14. That's obviously not a pretty record, but you have to remember we went to the CBI last year with a 17-15 record, so we'd still be better than last year's team and since we made the CBI finals last year, I have to assume they'd want us back again.

On top of that, the CI.com tourney means that there are even more 3rd-tier tourney invites to be had. I'd be shocked if we didn't make one of them.

If its not the NCAA or NIT then its tough. I mean, you dont really get "invited" to the CBI. If you pay the money, you play.

This team needs to progress, going to the CBI or the other made up tournament wouldnt be a step in the right direction. I would like to see the NIT this year.

Of course the NIT would be better, but we all know the NIT is starting to be run by the BCS schools and you will see fewer and fewer non-BCS schools invited, and I guarantee they will always get the top 2 seeds in each region.

Let's all remember that a CBI or CIT means more games for the team. And let's remember BU is very, very young this year. Losing 4 starters from last year's team is something that is hard to come back from. With all of the young players, extra games in postseason could be really meaningful for next year.

Plus - wasn't it fun last year to play into April? It's a long, long wait until October for practice starting. To me, it's a no brainer - you take whatever postseason bid you can get. Everyone knows that NCAA or NIT would be better, nobody is disputing that. Remember that while BU was in the CBI last year, really only Sam M, Theron, and DC played in those games. So this would be like a new experience for the team.

If fans don't like it, they certainly don't have to watch the CBI or CIT. That is always their choice.

Looking at the big picture...which involves looking at all the teams around the country...we pretty much have ZERO chance at the NIT. Like it or not, that's how it is. Even Tulsa, who would be way above BU in the NIT pecking order, is probably no better than a 50/50 shot at the NIT right now.

IMO, I believe that we will be on the outside looking in when it comes to the postseason.

Unless we run the table over the remainder of the regular season and win the MVC tournament, I don't think our record will be good enough to warrant a postseason bid. Even if we only lose one of our remaining games and get deep in the MVC tournament, we don't have a standout victory and we haven't shown we can take on the "big" teams, with good sized losses to Butler, Florida and Michigan State on the record.

I don't mind playing in events like the CBI, but it was stated here earlier that it was more about $$ than your record. I would watch again if we were there, but I think we should maybe sit out a postseason just to get a bit hungry for that again.

Let's just worry about improving between now and St Louis! why have this discussion when it willl only take a 3 game win streak to get us to the NCAA. I still say if DC can play on a neutral court like he does at home, TW gets hot then we should have as good a shot as anyone.

The NIT would probably require one of those "win out" scenarios. The glut of bubble teams for the NCAA means a lot of mid majors will be shuffled down, and we're too low in the pecking order.

However, 11-7 in the MVC will be worth some kind of postseason berth. Just probably not the NIT (imagining 3 MVC teams in there to begin with is weird to begin with).


And besides, it's all irrelevant as we begin a 12 game winning streak to end the season

I agree. Maybe that would be the time for TB and AT to get some playing time.
