  • OK, The New Scenario to root For!

Now that the Drake has become the old Drake, we now need SIU to defend its home court and beat the Trees and the Shux so they can play us in the 4-5 death match. This would be because the shux will likely lose Wednesday and win next Wednesday, so a loss to the salukis on senior night would put them in the 7th slot, provided EU also finishes 8-10, their 8th win likely coming over us at their place. All of this is predicated on teams defending their home court, but as this year's valley race has shown us, this scenario, even as likely as it should be, probably won't occur. I want no part of shucker ball after Rbert's stunt against them and no part of Evansville for the third time in 3 weeks. SIU should be who we hope to see.

Wow...what a change in mindset. Just a week ago some wanted nothing to do with the Salukis and the thousands of fans they bring to St. Louis. We haven't beaten SIU in St. Louis in 10 years, when we beat them 3 times in one season. I still want the Aces or the Bulldogs.

How in the heck did we lose to Drake? They're just awful. I'm sure Creighton is asking themselves the same thing too.

I think Bradley matches up pretty well against Wichita State. I'd rather see them in the first round than a three point shooting team like Drake. I think Evansville would be a favorable opponent for Bradley too.

I want the Aces, Bulldogs, or Salukis if Mullins is still out. Wichita is one of the hottest teams in the league right now and looks poised to overcome an 0-6 league start to finish at 9-9 and in the top half. Add to that the bush league shot by Chris Roberts at the end of our last game with the Shockers, and we have all the makings of another St. Louis disaster.

I am rooting for Bradley to be in the same side as UNI. And I am hoping Creighton and ISU are on the other. Other than that, I don't care who we have to try and beat 1st round, it's gonna be a monkey to get the win off our back regardless.

Somebody needs to update and post a thread on tiebreaker points. Someone did a great job with it last year - can't remember. What happens if UNI and Creighton tie for 1st? And ISU is 3rd. And we tie for 4th? So what scenarios are out there? Who do we root for down the stretch?

I do know one thing... I will be rooting for EVERY MVC team this coming weekend.

This looks like the most likely scenario -

            UNI 14-4
            CU 14-4
            ISU 12-6
            BU 10-8
            WSU 9-9
            UE 8-10
            SIU 7-11
            DU 7-11
            INSU 6-12
            MSU 3-15

The only things that are really up in the air right now is who BU will play in the 4-5 game, and who out of the WSU/UE/SIU/DU cluster stays out of Thursday. Everything else significant bracket-wise is pretty much set.

If this was a regular season game, I would agree with you. However, this would be a post season game where both teams will be fired up and don't need motivation. It's do or die. It'll come down to execution, not enthusiasm.

Our record in St. Louis over the last 7 years gives me zero confidence that we'll be ready to play. Aside from 2 years where a certain guy was our top assistant, we haven't shown up in St. Louis. We haven't done well with long layoffs this year either. Wichita having extra motivation doesn't help matters. I hope we can avoid them.

Other than CU I don't think it makes much difference who we play.

We can beat any of them and lose to just about any of them...so hopefully someone else upsets CU before we have to play them and then I would like our chances.

Already done...but it was before tonight's game. See the thread titled Valley Point Total.

I'm with you Lefty! Also if our bigs come to play I'm confident that we should be able to compete with anyone but all indications are that our bigs for some reason do not play so well on the road.

                          That was me, actually. Thanks.

I have all of that calculated, but haven't posted it yet. TulsaBrave's totals in the other thread are close, but slightly off. With UNI falling off the rocker, things are really getting interesting now.

Oh ... full recap in the blog.

I'm not affiliated with any newspaper, so I can have the ability to choose the subjects I consider the highest priority. This site also isn't a message board, so everything will be a bit more structured and regulated.
