  • Lloyd Phillips leaves ISU

Starting a new thread, since the other discussion about ISU's starting point guard Lloyd Phillips leaving the team was buried in the thread about ISU's injury problems. And I have a feeling this story isn't over yet.

Here is a blog from last PM from the Bloomington Pantagraph. It repeatedly refers to Phillips' quitting the team as a "leave of absence".-
    http://www.pantagraph.com/blogs/main/?p=3602

It hints that Phillips could still return to the team. I have also heard from an anonymous ISU insider that this is likely to happen. Because both sides need each other, it makes sense.
Expect some kind of announcement tomorrow about a reconciliation between Phillips and the team.

It took an extra couple days, but Lloyd Phillips has been reinstated to the Illinois State team, and he practiced with the team today. No word on whether he will play tomorow at Drake, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that.

If Phillips plays in ISU's game tomorrow, then that really confirms what a wimp Jankovich is regarding discipline.Phillips quit on his team, his coach, and his teammates in a selfish fit of anger at the most crucial point of their season. Then he begs his way back onto the team. And if he plays tomorrow, he will not have been penalized a single game or a single practice by his coach, other than the game he caused himself to miss by being AWOL. What a joke! Just the fact that Jank didn't announce an immediate suspension today after reinstating Phillips proves that his discipline is laffable.

Maybe......but do you know everything that went on between them....maybe he will play maybe he won't...but it's Jank's decision.

I see his point. If he walks back onto the team and immediately resumes his role and playing time, it looks to me like it sends a bad message.
I think most coaches would institute some kind of disciplinary action.

I see it as well....but first we don't know if he's going to play yet and second we don't know if there is some other type of discipline involved during a practice or practices.

And if everyone on the team is ok with it is it wrong to handle it that way?

              I think so.

I think it is ultimately up to the coach. (Not up the the players - IMO.)

Now after re-reading what you said and I said... I see what you mean. If Coach says it is ok and the players are ok with it... so I see what you mean.

But even then... I think it sets a precedent for future actions by players.

It sure could.......I just think it's hard to know what the chemistry is of the team and to judge how a coach handles something that is an internal situation within the team.

Yes... and I wonder how the chemistry changes when the player returns - regardless of what/how-much action (is) taken by the coach.

Bottom line is (IMO), there is a chemistry issue. Is the issue(s) resolved?

Though the initial article suggested Phillips might still play tomorrow at Drake, the news has been updated--

It is a little quicker to fly. About a 40 minute flight, vs. a 4 1/2 hr+ drive from Bloomington. I recall Bradley flying to Des Moines once many years ago. But when you factor in the time to and from the airports, and the much larger expense, they haven't flown it for many years now.

Ok. Exactly. That's why I am still surprised. Yes - it is faster to fly, I understand that. But like you said, the added expense to get there in 40 minutes..... tonight. So a hotel expense too.

                          Wow.

                          Nice.

                          On taxpayers tab. Very nice.

Jank was scared of KW and the PJS backlash.
