a few brave souls are journeying up to Drake for the game

that evening is also a BradleyFans loyal poster amckillip's birthday....well close to it

so we will be going to a few choice establishments that evening. If you are spending time in Iowa...you are more than welcome to join.
Gloria: Who's side are you on?
Jay: She's my daughter, you're my wife. Let's remember what's important, there's a football game on today

I am planning on going to Des Moines with Mrs. da coach.
Where do you guys plan to go? Last year a few posters here made it to Des Moines despite the terrible weather. We ate at Buzzard Bully's downtown. It was good food. We'll probably try it again Saturday before the game.

Da Coach.....Buzzard Billy's never reopened after being flooded out last June. Plenty of other good places to eat downtown, near Drake, and out in the western suburbs. Let me know if I can help you out.

I'm looking forward to making the trek tomorrow with Mrs. PTHawkeye. Except she is actually Mrs. PT"Cyclone" because somehow I married and Iowa State fan. But I digress...

I'm making my first trip to the Knapp Center. We are going to the game with 6 of our Iowa State friends, all of whom are being required to wear their Bradley garb and root for BU.

DU- what recommendations do you have for places to eat before the game (and close to the arena) that can accomodate 8 people on a Saturday night? Our friends want to go to a place at Jordan Creek Mall in West DM, but that's too far away IMO.

Jordan Creek is about a 15-20 minute drive from Drake, so probably not your best option.

Places within easy walking distance of the Knapp Center:

Drake Diner---50's style diner, very good.

Frank's Pizza---"gourmet" pizza place, also very good

Jethro's Barbecue---sports bar type place with huge portions of BBQ

Rosa's---Mexican.....little hole in the wall kind of place, but very good. Authentic Mexican, not Tex-Mex.

There are also 3 sub shops, a McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, etc within walking distance.

About a mile south of Drake's campus on Ingersoll, you can find several good places to eat....Noah's Ark (Italian...been there about 60-65 years), Jesse's Embers (steakhouse), Star Bar (eclectic menu....bar food + more).

Downtown is only about a 5-10 minute drive from Drake....too many places to list.....if you're interested in a particular kind of food, let me know.

I'd think twice before going to the Drake Diner. I remember hearing about a shooting there.

Yes, there was....in November, 1992. I've been there dozens of times since then, and never gave it a second thought.

Since Buzzard Billy's is closed (thanks DUBulldog!), we might join you at Jethro's before the game.

                              Da Coach,

You are welcome to join us. We figured since there will be many games going on, a sports bar with good BBQ might be a good idea. I will PM you my new cell #. We plan on getting into Des Moines around 3:30 - 4:00, check in to hotel and head over to Jethro's.
