  • Dave Reynolds'/PJ Star article about Brandon Lee

Brandon Lee will play point guard at ICC.

As far as BLee's legal troubles go, it is summed up like this--

Lee was charged with seven felonies in the case. But the final verdict, expected soon, likely will place him on probation, according to Lee's father, Fred.

"That's the foreseeable outcome," Fred Lee said. "He was a teenager and teenagers do stupid things. Everyone is entitled to a fresh start and Tony Wysinger and the ICC professors are giving him an opportunity. I'm sure he'll make the best of it."

Well good for him, I hope it works out. I must disagree with the notion that "everyone is entitled to a fresh start". No one is "entitled" to anything and this kid is darn lucky, most people dont do so well with 7 felonies.

McF I see where you are coming from.
But the legal system in most of the civilized world is rather lenient on young people who satisfy perhaps just two requirements.
First that their crimes be nonviolent and infrequent
Second that they display a willingness to work with the system and pledge to stay out of trouble.

From all I can find, Brandon is well on the way to making a big turnaround.
So even if he isn't entitled to the fresh start, almost all young people do get one or more such fresh starts, and many blow their fresh starts also.
Brandon might just be the exception, I hope so.

I agree here. The reason I selected that part of the article to quote was see what others thought. BL was at an age that he is considered a legal adult in all 50 states when this happened. It's not like he was a juvenile and deserves another chance, he was a responsible adult. If he gets off without jail time, he is darn lucky. I hope he can turn things around.

Well, I see it like this - If BL's crime was a violent one, then I would not give him a 2nd chance. This one seems to be along the lines of the Luther Head/Rich McBride incident of a few years back, but perhaps on a slightly larger scale. I do think 18-19 year old kids make dumb decisions, and I think in this case BL does deserve one (and only one) more chance.

That certainly stuck out to me when I read the article.

K-State has a ton of talent but they are still in need of a backup option at PG (they lost Stefhon Hannah to Mizzou).
It is ironic that in a story about
a troubled kid trying to make a good go of it, they mention he could end up with Huggins.

This shouldn't be considered ironic. It's probably the case 75+% of the time when Huggins lands a kid

I'm actually going to defend BL here. He had a terrible lapse in judgement, but he isn't a violent kid. Huggins has his reputation for taking guys with gun charges, battery charges, etc, hence the name 'Thuggins'. IMO BL doesn't fall into that category.
