  • Guarding the Three...

Let's learn how to do it. If we would have gaurded the three for the last 2 minutes of this game, we get the W. Awful. Credit to UNI for hitting them when it counts.

They hit some really good shots and frankly our 3 point shooting was not so hot.

I agree they hit some shots...some of them I would even call tough...but we did not gaurd the perimeter well down the stretch...PERIOD. And we definately did not execute offensively at the end.

Agreed about the 3's. But you know what gets me. How does a team like Butler play so well every year, even with a young team like they have? I know they finally lost a game last night, but their players can't be as athletic as ours, and they seem to get things done in a conference that's almost as tough as ours.

I'm not expecting we go 12-0, but a little more shooting and we could have won two out of these three close losses against UNI and ISU. Do we need to start recruiting more shooters, or keep going after the more athletic players? I'm more inclined to go after the shooters.

I believe AW would have made a huge difference and imagine WE. This team is short handed and everyone is probably playing beyond their comfort level and doing pretty well. This bodes well for next year and if you do not think AW would not be making a difference well we have different opinions.

Agreed...I miss AW and we would be a better team with him. These young guys are showing us something...next year should be fun (boy I sound like a Cubs fan).

Bravesfan your right there kids are not as athletic as ours. They don't put points on the board if you can run and jump. They put points on the board when you can shoot. We haven't had good shooting all year and I don't see it changing. WE HAVE TO BRING IN SOMEONE WHO CAN SHOOT. PERIOD

Sure he would make a difference but we cant keep dwelling on that. Coach Les doesnt mention Andrew in the post game, the players dont mention Andrew as a reason for losing. Our team clearly has enough talent to win games. Coach Les just said "we didnt execute on D at the end of the game and it cost us" This was a game we could have and should have won and just didnt.
                Can we start winning soon?

We don't need to recruit any different than we are.
We just need to get a break with no injuries just one time.We have had the worst luck the last 3 years.

I agree 100%, but I thought we would still have enough in the tank to grind out a win tonight, with or without AW and WE. And my comments about Butler had to do with the fact that other teams have injuries and still play well. Others like SIU struggle, but not all.

Maybe I'm more upset with the way we lost than the loss itself. A loss against UNI even in Peoria is nothing to be ashamed of, it's just that we blew two leads late in games against them and couldn't finish the job.

If we played well enough without AW and WE for 38 minutes, why couldn't we have done that the last two minutes?

The first 2 threes by Farokhmanesh were unguarded, but the second two threes they made to tie and win were very tough shots. Sometimes they just fall for the other team, I guess. This year seems like they *never* are falling for us. Maybe we're filling up the luck bank for March-- ehhhh, trying to find something positive.

Sorry to disagree, but you are dead wrong. We need to recruit guards that are taller than 5'9". We cannot guard the 3 with the small guys Les recruited. This point has been proven over and over and over and over and over this year. When we have Sam M. and McCain on the floor (and sometimes along with Norris) we don't have much of a chance guarding the 3. My intramural team was bigger at the guard position that this BU team. Look out people, we are heading for another 4-6th place finish. That's what we have gotten for 7 years now. Be honest with yourself... are you satisfied? Other than the couple games in the NCAA (coutesy of Mr. O'Byrant) these years do not stand out in BU basketball history. I, just a fan, predicted to the guy next to me that we would not be able to stop UNI's 3's at the end of the game and we would lose. Dead on prediction. I have HAD IT. Anyone interested in buying my tickets for the remaining games... PM me.

What, I'm supposed to be positive after a loss like that? I'm supposed to be positive after 7 years of finishing 4th or lower. You must have low standards and that's fine for you. And, by the way, that team (UNI) was not that good until they started the MVC season... what does that tell you? You might say, "well, they have improved and that's why". OK, then why have we not seen that kind of improvement with our team??? Apparently for some people just staying out of the play-in game at the MVC tourney is enough to satisfy them. Not me, and especially after our Coach preached from day one that he was going to bring BU to consistent national prominence. Well, placing 4th or lower in the MVC is and never will be consistent national prominence. I guess I better lower my expectations so I feel better and don't get as upset. That's it... the secret to happiness... lowered expectations. What if I lowered my expectations on my students?

As far as I can tell our two signees for 09-10 are 6'8 and 6'9.
