I nominate you for "post of the week". Great post.

Nice venting to my fellow fans. Got it out of my system... Sometimes you just gotta yell and my wife was already in bed... Gotta go to bed now and get ready for some exciting teaching in the morning. Good night all and take care.

As much as we broke down defensively the last 4:00 minutes it was our offense that really cost us the game. Most of the 2nd half we really moved the ball around and got good shots. The last 4 minutes we were way to passive. There was no motion for the 1st 25 seconds which put us in a scramble situation in the last 10 seconds. It just seemed like we were playing not to lose while UNI was playing to win. Certainly a disappointing loss. A loss to Drake on Saturday brings us closer to the play in game. The past 2 tough losses combined with a hard road game at Creighton makes this game one of the biggest on the season. I have no questions in regards to the effort this team puts out there every game. A little better execution on both ends of the court and we'll be just fine.

With a minute and a half left and UNI down 6, McCain can't bite on the help defense and leave Moran for a set three.

With 50 seconds left, Farokhmanesh couldn't inbound the ball quick enough seing that his guy was helping out and not ready to guard him. It was so obvious that he was the one that would be shooting the ball as he anxiously awaited the ball from the ref.

That's also how good shooters act. Even though they missed some early there was no lack of confidence when they took their next shot.

We played good enough D to win but our 3 point shot did not go in and we were pretty much who we have been all year and that is:
                1) Great heart and hustle
                2) Very susceptable outside shooting
                3) 1/2 court offense relys on our guards too much especially during crunch time
                4) D played well enough to win
                5) Stopped going inside for long stretches of the game
                6) We can never ever just put someone away when we have the chance
                7) Gave up easy backdoor baskets

The only place where we did step it up beyond our usual was that DC and SS showed up and we really hit our FTs. I have no complaints from last nights game and I believe AW will be that shooter next year and hopefully WE will have recovered to play the 5.

I would love to have another JC at BU but those players are special and everyone is going after them. Who said the JL is not trying to recruit a pure shooter?

pure shooters are great, but can be liabilities unless they are athletic, also. Obviously, everybody wants great athletes who are tall and ALSO great shooters, but those players are hard to come by, and when they appear they are usually snatched up by the BCS major programs.

UNI gets away with their undersized, unathletic shooters because they have some real threats inside. As we saw when there were isolation plays, their bigs can create shots and finish most of the time. If the guard comes in to help, it leaves his man open for the 3.

If we want success with undersized guards, we need to further work our inside-outside game. Unfortunately, our personnel doesn't fit that style wonderfully, so we will have struggles. The counter to that is to play great defense and reduce the importance of the offensive end of the floor.

Warren being out has continued to hurt us for two reasons. obviously, he was our best scoring option. Him being on the floor commands respect, which leaves guys like Sam M, Norris, and Dodie more open looks. On the defensive end he is a long player, which allows him to help and gain that extra step on closing out the 3 point shooter.

I am confident that JL is running the best team he can with the personnel he has. Sometimes teams will make big shots, and ours won't fall. it sucks, but that's the game. Next year (allowing for good health) we will be much tougher, and will close out a lot of these games that are slipping away.

Probably not a bad idea! "Go calc Go!" "Get, Linear, Yes!" New chants... Hey, what happened last night to my buddy Higgins? Normally he controls the game and lets the players play, but last night the other refs controlled the flow and blew whistles all night long. I'm dissappointed in my favorite ref. Did you give him an earfull???

Why would our gaurds need to be bigger? UNI's aren't big.

                      We have DD and CR.

I think it's more important to have talent(which includes shooting) and toughness at the guard spot

Why not? And, I refuse to use UNI as a program to aspire to. We must set our sights higher than UNI.

UNi gets away with short guards for two reasons. First, they are great shooters. Second, they have good inside play. If their shorter guards get beat on defense, their inside players are good enough to provide adequate help defense. Offensively, their inside/outside game allows their short guards to get open shots.

I didn't say we should aspire to UNI. But their gaurds are not big and they have one loss in the conference. So it can be done. I just don't think we need to be big there to win in our conference. It wouldn't hurt either...
but there are other components to our team that need adjustments too.

I certainly did on a couple of occasions, but Gerry Pollard draws my ire like no one else. Worst ref in the Valley.
