SIU has gotten a verbal committment from 6'11" Nick Evans, from
Red Hill HS ( a small school near Vincennes, IL)
Nick was homeschooled until just this past season and has only played competitive basketball for just over a year.
But as they say, you can't teach height!

Several people who have seen Evans have compared him to Zane Beekman from Lewistown ('02).
In fact there is a discussion about this comparison going on over at illinoishighschoolsports.com.
They say he not only looks a lot like Zane, but their games are similar.
Here we see the 6'11" Evans getting snuffed by a 6'4" kid (Cliff Westendorf) who appears to be able to get off the floor about 2 feet higher than Evans.
There is some talk about Nick's lack of jumping ability.
He transferred from Richwoods to Central if my memory serves me correctly....
how long was he at richwoods? did his parents move?
Shaun had a "problem" with then coach Bobby Darling, I think coach Darling actually expected Shaun to show up for practice.
He thus bolted to the loving arms of coach Buesher.(sic)?
Probably had an "UNCLE" in the Central school district.
There was a well publicized story about SL's dad or someone renting an apartment in the Central district, but a question if anyone lived there.
Supposedly at some point an IHSA check noted the apartment did have furniture, threfore, he was cleared to play.

i never heard of a high school kid transferring to another high school for basketball reasons. has that ever happened around here?
Another less publicized instance was the transfer of Jordan Morris from Washington to Pekin a few years ago. His parents did build or buy a house in the Pekin HS district, but the underlying reason for the move was his desire to play on a Pekin team (which included Jeremy Crouch) that was much better (and more likely to succeed in the state tournament) than the Panthers were at that time.
