ISU chant is %@$#&!

The best way to deal with it would be for Jank to grab a microphone and point the people out who are being so rude and disrespectful to the University. Public humiliation or the threat has historically been a great d?©tente.
For you Maryland haters GW did that after the Duke incident and I have seen Ratface at Duke ask the student body to refrain from some hurtful remarks regarding an opposing player where there was no bad language just areas where he thought the students' behavior would not show his school in a good light. If ISU wants to show their brand as being classless then it will just continue because it can be curtailed with just a little more calling out from the coaches to the Administration."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say that it is ridiculous because Bradley students don't do that because I know that they have although maybe not to that extent. To be honest it bothers me to sit in the student section close to the visitors section and hear students yell obscenities, especially directed at a single players family, I often turn away embarrassed. But I figured I couldn't get mad over it at isu because some Bradley students do it too and just don't get caught. Sometimes the students need to remember that it is after all a BASKETBALL game. There is no need for the obscenities.
Just to be clear, not all Bradley students do this.
Also, at isu, it's not just a few bad apples.. Every year I'm there, it's many, many rotten apples universally chanting the "you suck ----" chant and flipping us off, shouting 'FU BU', wearing the "Buck *******" shirts... Which I might add is the most ridiculously trite and subpar slogan possible. It takes real class and cognitive ability to switch two letters to form a clever insult.
If we (the student section) created a shirt, it would probably consist of an anagram, but that would just confuse the isu students too much.
WAIT! I've got it! If anyone can figure out this anagram, I'll buy you a soda or beer: Next year's BU vs isu t shirt: Sushi SitarHere's the deal, Wyoming for football, Bradley for basketball.

The refs may or may not get a serious ear full, but it's nothing you couldn't hear on cable television. The student section at isu would barely be allowed on HBO.

It comes from both sides, everyone has different levels of morality. Just because society isnt at your level doesnt mean it is anyones crusade to make it so. Just ignore it.

This was just posted on RBF...
Hopefully it will help resolve the problem...
(Athletic Director) Zenger was just on the RC McBride Show on WJBC. He was asked about the chant. Zenger said they have worked with Red Alert and the student body president regarding this issue. The importance of the issue is one of the reasons he is here and not traveling with the men's team. They have composed a letter regarding the chant that will be published in the Vidette on Thursday, mailed to all Red Alert members, and taped to the seats of the student sections for the game on Saturday. He also said that they have recieved a letter from an 8 year old girl about the chant that they would include somewhere. When asked about further measures Zenger replied that he has some other tools at his disposal for the game but was going to keep those private unless needed. He tried to keep it positive regarding the generally good atmosphere and energy at the games but was clearly not happy. One of the positives he did mention is that we are on pace to break our attendance record.

Thank you, Rusty.
If you read it, I said in the post that our student section has gotten much better over the last couple of years in terms of numbers and class. I'm probably a bad example to use, but overall it's better.
Also, "I Screwed Up" isn't vulgar and is a nice little alternate expansion on the isu acronym. I didn't say we're perfect.. I held that we work a lot better with the families that come to carver than the isu kids do at their place. Here's the deal, Wyoming for football, Bradley for basketball.

The point is, I Screwed Up and Pluck the Birds are not a play on explicit phrases. FU BU, and Buck ******* have every intention of giving that air.Walk on, Walk on

I don't deny they exist, but the difference is in the sheer numerical disparity between the two, probably 100-fold to 1000-fold that the two phrases are used and promoted ...
And there is one small book store that used to sell Buck F*radley T-shirt several years ago (The two main bookstores on campus have NEVER sold Buck F*radley shirts...at least since the early 90's when my brothers were at ISU).
They did not sell them the 4 years I was a student there (03-07)... so I highly doubt you saw over 2000 of them last year. 80% of the students where the "Red Alert" shirt they are asked to wear. The rest are either not in the Red Alert, or chose not to wear it.

Bottom line is that something official is finally being done about the cheer. This is in addition to the messages that were sent out to Red Alert members on facebook. It sucks that this couldn't be self-policed, but as I've said many times----tell students (especially drunk students) what NOT to do, and it still happens out of spite. That was the case for awhile last year anyway.
Hopefully this puts an end to it once and for all.

You're right, two years ago we received shirts and towels that said "Pluck the Birds"....where is the problem with that? I suppose the "Box the Birds" shirts were somehow problematic as well. I'm sorry, but only you find any problem with a shirt that says "Pluck the Birds." I am a 21 year old foul-minded senior who has sat in the senior section for a long time and I see nothing explicit in the saying "Pluck the Birds." Birds have feathers, feathers are plucked last time i checked. I'm sorry if you take offense to the fact that it coincidentally rhymes with an explicit word, you have to take that up with Merriam-Webster.Walk on, Walk on
