Facebook notes an NCAA violation?

Interesting article about a problem that the NCAA is trying to deal with, recruiting messages left for recruits on the Facebook page by boosters--

a couple years ago there was so much of this going on by Kentucky fans, among others, regarding high-level recruits that the NCAA ruled in 2006 that such messages constituted a recruiting violation.

It is not clear how the NCAA will deal with this. They have never announced any violations for this kind of activity.

One other recent issue with a recruiting violation involving football recruits at the University of Washington---

It is illegal to simulate game-day events to impress a football recruit. Nonetheless, that is just what Washington coaches did to impress some important recruits. They set up the fog machines, and artificial crowd noise and dressed the recruits up in uniforms and ran them onto the field with cheerleaders.
The problem is that the NCAA had banned such activities after a lot of schools were going crazy with such personalized recruiting moves.

Thursday morning, N.C. State asked Taylor Moseley, a freshman, to shut down "John Wall PLEASE come to NC STATE!!!", a Facebook group that drew more than 700 members. By Thursday night, it was gone."

Well what about just "friend-ing" them. I know a few people on this board who commonly friend Bradley recruits. I'm sure they don't talk to them or start a facebook page, but they make their presence known at least by friending them and being associated with Bradley.

Stupid NCAA once again. What UCONN and USC do is OK but don't start a facebook group. Everyone needs to create a page in protest. I am already working on the group Dyricus Simms-Edwards please come to Bradley.

This is one of those things that they cannot hope to maintain any level of control over. Anyone can start a facebook page, all you need is an email address. I could start a fake one right now and make a group about wanting some kid to go to some other school, just in hopes that they get slammed.
