  • Derrick Rose going to Europe?

An article in the NY Times quotes Derrick Rose's "brother Reggie"
as saying " the family had been contacted by several agents who had suggested sending him overseas to play basketball after he graduates."

OJ Mayo and other top prep players have also considered this idea. They are being enticed to consider this pro option by agents and power brokers like Sonny Vaccaro, who now works for Reebok. They want to start the money rolling in as soon as possible.

That's really a shame because I don't think it would do anything but hurt the college game, hopefully it doesn't become a trend.

Good point. The NBA 19 year-old minimum rule was supposed to help the colleges by preventing kids from jumping to the NBA right from high school. We'll see if it really does that.

I say let him go. I dont think the college game is hurt by guys like Rose going to Europe. He would only play one year in college anyway. Coaches are under so much pressure to recruit these one year guys, I bet they would be happy not to have to deal with it. I would rather get a solid 4 year player that I can route for, then a one year wonder. Unless its of the Carmello Anthony type, which IMO Derrick Rose is not.
          Can we start winning soon?

IMO, it might take a couple years for this to take effect. Consider this theory: kid knows he is good enough for the NBA. High school knows it too. He just limps through HS cause he is going to the Promised Land for money and won't need basic Math skills.

Now we have a rule that makes the kid wait til he is 19. Well, he has not opened a school book since the 5th grade. Too late to get him up to speed to enter college. What is the kid gonna do?

            Hello Europe!

Even more support for the Derrick Rose to Europe conspiracy theory

and maybe Bill Walker and OJ Mayo too.

Now there is even more rumor on this subject.
Just what might players like OJ Mayo, Bill Walker, and Derrick Rose do for a year until they can go pro if they choose not to go to college.

                Well here's the latest rumor.
In the crowd in Las Vegas, watching all these guys at the Reebok Big Time AAU tourney this weekend, was
Mannie Jackson, the President and CEO of the Harlem Globetrotters.

There was certainly some speculation that he has been talking to a few of the top players in hopes they might want to kill a year playing for the Globetrotters.
I know it sounds ridiculous, but

Moderately good news for Illini fans.
During an interview last nite Derrick Rose was asked if he was going to join his AAU teammate, Eric Gordon at University of Illinois.

                  His answer was:
                  "I think so."

I keep hearing a lot of worry from Illinois fans in Chicago, as rumors build that Derrick Rose is now leaning towards Memphis.
His friend and AAU (Meanstreets Express) teammateTim Flowers has also reportedly just picked up an offer from Marquette and will likely end up there.
