  • Chicago Public League - suspensions/cheating/violenca

Some happenings last night in the Chcago Public League-

A player from North Lawndale was shot in the leg after their game.
Jermaine Winfield was shot in the thigh outside the school after he scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots in a win over ACT Charter School at Chicago Collins HS.-

A brawl among fans caused the game between Chicago Simeon and Chicago Bogan to be stopped by officials with 5:55 left in the 4th quarter. The game was not resumed by mutual agreement of both schools.-

    In more routine games-
Darius Smith had 28 points, 7 steals, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in a Marshall win-

More about the gunshot incident involving Chicago North Lawndale player Jermaine Winfield.-
North Lawndale played Marshall Thursday with increased security. But despite the maximum security, another brawl broke out on the court between fans of the rival schools.

And this latest brawl at a high-profile CPL game last night has prompted the Public League, which has struggled over how to stem the increasing violence at games, to announce that they will now ban all spectators from the visiting teams at the games.

I wonder how they will be able to tell which team you are for?

Wow! That's sends a real clear message to the kid. I won't be surprised if we hear about future transgressions in college since he obviously learned this lesson well.

One of my friends (huge Illinois fan) showed me the video of why Richmond got his 2nd "T". It was the worst call I have ever seen. They gave him a "T" for hanging on the rim. There was a pass off of the backboard to him, he grabbed it and attempted to throw it down, with one hand. The ball slipped away as he attempted the dunk, his hand HIT the rim (no hanging what-so-ever) and the balls bounced off the rim and did not go in.

I assume that video was reviewed by the IHSA in their decision to not suspend him a game.

That actually happened to me before. I was thrown out of a high school baseball game for "throwing equipment" (and thus suspended for a game).

I was batting, struck out for the third out of the inning. I tossed my helmet and bat towards the 1st base dugout as I walked to third base to play the field. The SS was bringing my fielding glove and hat to me. The ump somehow thought I was throwing the equipment in disgust and thus tossed me from the game.

The ruling was appealed and even the other teams coach told the powers that be (I think it was just the conference officials) what the situation was, and I was reinstated for the next game.

The situation appears to be similar.

Sorry for the ramble but it makes sense to me...
