Mybe it would be better for all if YOU stayed home and you can cuss and say all you want in the privacy of your living room.
Lefty. I agree, just stay home if you feel the need to cuss. It just shows the depth of your vocabulary. Why on earth do people feel they need to curse when women and children are around is beyond me.I have been to Drake . Great experience met some posters from drake on VT and went out to drink with them after the game Great time nice people. Been to Terre Haute never had a problem. People were very pleasant. Went to UNI several times and had a great time after the games with UNI people. Then there's ISU red, pretty bad down there. I hope we don't treat them like they treat us. They are about as bad as it gets.Won't go into specifics but its baddown there is all I'll say. Sportsmanship is not in there Vocab.

Jesus, what did I say? Did I say coins? Did I say anything about physical harm? I'm not talking about beating the crud out of people, I'm talking about a hostile environment. What I am trying to say is it is not your place to demand fair treatment, you're going to get harassed.

If you want pretty language, handshakes and a hug. GO TO CHURCH. And the fact that someone here thinks bad language should be unacceptable anywhere scares me.

You're right. Let's throw common courtesy to the wind and tell everyone to *blank* off!

Guinness -- common courtesies exist in the world for a reason. A child does not deserve to be berated by obnoxious drunk fans. He should be able to enjoy an event without feeling attacked.

Now if you're coming in there and being loud about YOUR team in THEIR house... then the berating is fair game.

Are unprovoked verbal attacks acceptable? Is rooting for visitors provocation?

In its simplest form, you berate someone for following a team that is different than the team you follow.

I find it hard to believe no one here has ever boo'ed or harassed an ISU fan at Carver Arena(at any point, or the moment they sat down right off the bat). If you and your friends wear an ISU shirt to a Bradley game I'm willing to bet they're going to get harassed.

If you and your friends wear a Bradley shirt to an ISU game, you will get harassed.

Thats just how it goes, from the sound of the OP, the people at SIU sound like they were just giving him a hard time. Did they actually wring his neck? No, that would be wrong. They joked. People say crap like that all the time. Quit being so sensitive and GROW A PAIR.

Here I am!. I have NEVER booed or harassed an ISU fan at Carver arena.
              Obviously you have.
              So, do you feel stonier?

Well we were not talking about booing or harassing an opposing coach or player for that matter. But why would you have to use vulgar language to do so. My kids aren't kids any longer but if I took them places and that kind of language was all around me then I would stay home. I don't need to listen to it.

But in a public place like a college basketball game.... vulgar language has no place,none,nada,.....for no reason whatsoever

There are enough bars that put up with that. I don't need to go to a ball game to hear it. If I'd want my kids to hear and see that kind of stuff, I could take them to Family Night at a Rivermen game. Not that I don't use that language, I play golf.

I agree with some of what you say Guinness. But THIS?! People who swear around little kids show a REAL lack of class..... And you went (or go) to Bradley? I'd expect better

Obviously Guiness does not have kids or he would not feel that this is appropriate , just because you buy a ticket it does not give you the right to act any way you want to at a public event. There are several young kids in our section so the adults pretty much watch what they say as you don"t want kids to have to listen to foul language at a ball game.

There's nothing wrong with the fairly harmless smack-talk and stuff with fans of other teams. Cursing is probably unacceptable at a college basketball game. But anything that resembles an actual threat or involves real violence is completely unacceptable. As a visiting fan, I expect to be given a hard time, but I expect it to be "in good fun." That's where the line is, and where it should be.

Again-you cannot throw things or threaten people. You CANNOT. It's not about having thin skin. It's about what's acceptable in society.

You state that if you don't like it, then don't go. This isn't about people going to a bar and being offended about people drinking and being drunk. This is about people going to watch a basketball game and cheer on their team while having to tolerate people obnoxious, offensive "fans." Buying a ticket does not give you the right to threaten other fans, etc. That other person paid just as much as you did and has every right to enjoy the game.

If these actions continue, then people won't go. Basketball is a great game and should strive to be inclusive. There are, sadly, far too many examples of offensive fans, which many people tend to remember longer than the positive experiences they may have had at other games.

So if my GF or mom get offended at a game, then they should grow a pair? FAIL? You're on the wrong side of the fence here.

There's a big difference between good-natured banter and harassing, threatening, and THROWING things.

Please let this point be clear: YOU CANNOT THROW THINGS

And I have zero problems with people removing loud, obnoxious drunken fans. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with them removing alcohol sales from college and pro games (not that I expect it or am pushing for it-the vast majority of fans that drink do so responibly).

The worst behavior I have ever seen at a sporting event was at the Bradley@UIC game and the Bradley@Loyola game last year. The UIC game had some young couple from Peoria screaming the N word at UIC fans. And the Loyola game there were two old men sitting about 5 rows up in the middle of our side screaming "bad" things at the other team, their fans, their coach, and even our players(Ive never heard young people scream that loud let alone guys in their 60's).

Did they care? No, because nothing happened, they just ignored them, and no one was hurt.

Didnt they just LAST year ban the "F-Bradley" official cheer we got from the ISU cheer team? I mean honestly, its like its something new to you all....what do you expect? What about the "Molinarmy" (spelling)? What about people here suggesting we put the student section behind the opposing team bench? What the heck do you think is going to happen? Sunshine and roses?

I have. Though without profanity. The student section is a little different then the rest of the arena though. I dont think we should use profane cheers, but I do expect any fan wearing the other teams colors to be booed if they walk in front of us. And I have been booed and harassed at ISU. I knew that I would be going in and i welcomed it. I think at least some of want Carver to be an intimidating atmosphere for opposing teams, and this is some of what comes with that.
