  • ASU vs UCLA...the reffing

This is how college ball should be called! Both these teams are really going after each other and the refs unless you are grabbing, pushing or hand checking they are letting them play it out. There is a lot of bodies flying all over the place and plenty of contact but the refs are not stopping play for tic tacky calls. It makes the game so much better to watch and prepare these players so much better for the next level.

    and those UCLA cheerleaders!

SFP- strongly agree. I'm switching between this game, MSU-IL, and CU-WSU. The reffing in this game has been excellent, especially compared to the other 2 games. I love it when the game is decided by the players and coaches rather than the refs.

Ditto. True physical game, like the old days.

I'm not even watching the game, but know what you mean. Those West Coast girls.... didn't the Beach Boys do a song about them?

UCLA is my #2 team (though a distant second to BU) and I love Howland, but they looked absolutely terrible against the zone at the end of the game. They did not score for the last 8+ minutes of regulation.

I love Ben Howland as a coach but with all the talent he has he needs to open up his O just a bit more. NC needs to do the opposite. I believe both coaches will tweak their system a bit between now and March and I'd suspect both will be at least a 2nd seed at worst and final four contenders. NC has so much talent if they do not make it to the final the season should be classified as a disaster. ASU on the other hand plays really tough ball. They were out banging UCLA when it mattered and UCLA likes to bang. They will be a tough out come March and I expect them also to be a 2 seed in the NCAA. There's some real tough teams this year. I only hope the MVC officials are watching some of these confence games and watching how the reffs are calling the game. The Louisville/Pitt game was also a game where they let them play hard. I just wish the Valley reffs would let the bigs bang a little more, allow some body contact unless you are pushing, grabbing and checking. The Valley for the most part negates good clean D, a nice flow to the game and good bigmen the opportunity to develop correctly.
