I've heard and read a few skeptical folks speculate that winning a Valley Championship this year would be tainted because the quality of competition in the conference is down compared to previous years. I wanted to go on record as saying this is absolutely not true. A championship is a championship and a banner is a banner regardless of the qualitative context. Nobody will remember, years from now, as we look up at the rafters and see a championship banner that reads: MVC Champions 2008-09...that the Valley was down. All you can do is play the teams on your schedule, and win.
The folks who will conspire at the end of the year to determine at-large teams for the various tournaments may, anecdotally, draw upon their subjective opinions as to which teams from which conferences warrant a bid. Then and only then will the Valley's relative weakness (8th or 9th rated conf. in the nation) be a factor. Well, and in SOS factors for RPI.
BU can control its own destiny...and doesn't need to "win out" to win the conference. Bottom line is: whether the Valley is up or down, lets win this thing.
