Somebody over on Redbirdfan.com is saying that our crowd noise and cheerleaders are amplified through the Carver Arena sound system. Is this true? It doesn't seem that way to me.

There are mikes in front of the band so the band can be heard more easily. I think sometimes they're left on even after play resumes.

It definitely is... it might be hard to tell from where you are sitting but where we were in section 19- there is a speaker pointed right down at us and you can clearly tell it is amplified...

It wasn't as bad as last year... I specifically remember seeing a male cheerleader point his megaphone (or w/e you call it) directly at a microphone hanging from the rafters... you could hear every word he said...and you could tell it is coming from the speakers

Most bands have microphones on their set but the ones at Carver pick up much more then the band playing...

I am not complaining too much... other then it was just annoying... but i was just answering the question.

Yeah it definitely is....I can hear familiar voices from the band every once in a while that seemed to have echoed across the entire arena. Who cares...I call that smart.

Only the band has mikes... However, those have been known to be left on "accidently" as I found out in my band days when a well placed curse word echoed throught the arena... And immediatley caught the glare of vroman.... These mic's however are very good and pick up a substancial amount of noise from the people around them, the cheerleaders, etc. It seemed that there were some kind of sound issues last night especially in the second half, as i doubt we would intentionally make that horrible feedback noise as we were shooting critical freethrows...

I've been to games at 5 different major or mid-major arenas this season and all but 1 do the same thing. I don't notice it at BU games when I sit in the lower bowl as much as when I sit in the upper bowl as RedbirdFan said. At the other 4 arenas, I was in the upper bowl and all except Michigan St do the exact same thing.

I only really notice it when the front row left girl in the band screams for her dear life. Even for me...that's loud
Gloria: Who's side are you on?
Jay: She's my daughter, you're my wife. Let's remember what's important, there's a football game on today

Yeah, it's definitely done. You can hear the cheerleaders and even individual fans clear as day in the upper bowl. As far as I'm concerned it's part of the home court advantage and adds to the environment of Carver. I've grown up a Butler fan and it isn't done in Hinkle, though it should.

However, it is not allowed under NCAA rules. It is bad sportsmanship. The one that is most annoying to me is when the front girls (along with the screaming one) sing Wheels on the Bus during opponents' free throws.

i've never noticed that...odd someone in the upperbowl can hear what a guy 5 feet from them can't

I wonder what it is like on the court. We all have these strong opinions on how it sounds up in the upper bowl or behind the basket...wonder what it soundsl ike on the FT line.
anyone w/ basketball experience is more than welcome to chime in
