  • Chris Roberts

In my oppinion is the best athlete in the valley hands down it's not even close. If he had a jumpshot off the bounce like the freshman from WSU Murry?(sp)who is a future pro, or the guard from Drake he would be a late 2nd round pick, increase his ball handling and it's a wrap in the 1st round.

he does so many things on the court that he really doesn't get credit for. BU runs NO plays for him. when he wants the rebound he goes and gets it WAY over everyone. The guys he defends one on one can't go by him, has hard time getting entry passes on wing, then has to shoot over that freakish athletisim and length.

offensively is a very team orientend player. solid catch and shoot kind of player out to 23 ft, very strong wrist, some of the last second shots he made looked very natural from that far out

has slightly below average handles, with decent hesitation in and out dribble to free himself, however doens't use it very effectively at this point. If he can master the 2 foot hop into the lane he could go to the foul line more(like team mate TW) since not very many players in the country have the type of explosiveness this kid has.

seems like a very coachable kid, can't wait to see him with a year under his belt, and the development plan JL will lay out for him, the sky is the limit for him he has all the physical tools required to play after college somewhere.

At this early stage, he has my vote for all valley new comer and defensive player of the year.

I think you make a very good assessment of Roberts but, unfortunately, he is a junior and he may not have enough time to develop like he might have if we got him a year or two sooner. But, who knows, look how Crouch developed over the summer between season 2 and 3. If Roberts works REALLY hard over the summer on his ballhandling and shooting he may just be our best player next year.

Oh, and you're right about WSU's Murray -- STUD!

I feel he should be valley newcomer of the year hands down. DPOY it's too early to tell.
As far as first or even second round in the draft, I wouldn't bet on it ,even with signifigant improvement. Juco players guards that have gone on to the pro's like Steve francis, Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell were all NBA ready by the midpoint of there Jr. years. If Chris can continue to develop he may some day garner a training camp invite, or go overseas to a top euroleage where he impresses and gets a free agent contract. He will not be getting drafted out of a mid major as an undersised two. Especially with the tendency to draft younger and current facination with european early entry players. HE can however turn himself into a Rashad McCants or a Tony Allen type player.
I don't know if he has the desire or mental makeup to be a combo guard but developing a Nate Robinson type game would be best of all. I dont think there is enough time for the latter. He is a joy to watch and has been the biggest difference maker these last few weeks.
