I 1/2 way wonder if the improved feed had anything to do with the choppy audio and video late - I know nothing about bitrate...

I'm not complaining about the feed, I loved it for the most part. I'd rather see the game then hear it. I for once could see it on the big screen.

I noticed the SIGNIFICANT improvement as well. I had the same thoughts about the audio being affected by the improvement in the video. Thanks to Derek and all the other posters for giving feedback! GO BRADLEYFANS.COM!

Part of my job as creative and web services intern is to assist in the operations of our web streaming efforts. Trust me that I understand the frustration that can come about when something is not working properly or is not on par with other schools, especially Valley rivals.

We have invested in the service to provide and improve upon what the athletics department feels is a great service to our fans. Aside from Men’s Basketball, our streaming provides an outlet to most of our sports where one was not available before. With that said, we hear your woes and we do appreciate the feedback.

I have spent time the past few days addressing this internally and with our web services provider, Jump.TV, the ways in which we can improve upon the service we have with our equipment. Streaming is tricky because of the various ways you push and pull the stream. For basketball, we pull the stream from the local TV affiliates for broadcast home and road games. If the picture quality is poor on the television screen, inevitably signal loss will occur and it will come out looking even worse on a computer screen.

As for the concerns about Missouri States stream, I was told that a large part of the reason they have such a great stream is because of their recent investment in their new basketball arena, JQH Arena. With this came the addition of in house cameras that are HD and new equipment all around.

I have devised an intermediary plan that will be taking action soon. If all goes accordingly (which is rarely the case with technology), it will provide our various bandwidth users the option as to what quality they want to stream at. Additionally, I was told by Jump.TV that they will be upgrading the service at some point in the near future on their end.

We appreciate the feedback and know that we are committed to making this a great option for our great fans all across the United States. Do not hesitate to email me with any concerns, comments, constructive criticism, or the occasional positive remark

Here's the original post from the BU side of the house.

The feed really took a hit in the beginning of both halves. Here's some people we can contact to see if they can resolve this issue. The Jump.tv guy I talked to said that the equipment being used by BU is outdated as I thought. He also said Missouri State had some of the best. There are no excuses when you make this type of service a paid subscription.

Jump also gave me this name Jim Rea 309-677-3869. You cam also call or email Jump.tv for some money back, email (support@jumptv.com) or phone (1-407-936-0557). I'll start my email campaigne with Derek and I'll email Jump.tv for some more credits.

The feed dies in the middle of the game?!?!?! COME ON! This is absolutely Bush League... I love BU but this is sub-par in every way.

I called the Jump.TV guys and they said all the problems with the quality of the feed is from the BU side. This is 2009 almost 2010 and I have seen better quality feeds from someones house. What do you guys need to improve this? Is it greater bandwidth? You can throttle it for games! Is it equipment? The price for memory and processors have gone down tremendously. Is it the software has not been configured correctly. Just get one of your top Computer Science grad students to check it out for a project!

Qualify for BU or anywhere else? I can tell you the feed from the Horizon league is light out much better!

I believe the reason the feed went out was because something simply timed-out. I closed the window, logged back in and was immediately able to watch the video.

Regarding the quality, it is what it is. We knew and know that this is probably all the better we can get at home games for the time being. I trust what has been said that this quality will improve at some point in the future. I put this on the big screen and saw and heard the game just fine. I've got NO complaints about the video stream from this game tonight. It WAS what I expected for a home game. (That's not saying that I don't want better. I do.)

In watching all of the reproduction bits on the CR "shot" you can always and easily tell when they have a local news video feed vs the BU Internet feed (WEEK's Josh Simon worked closely with BU to put together all the clips, and BU could not provide better source material.). This problem starts with the quality of the cameras and/or the initial digital compression...Doesn't matter the bandwidth if you have a poor source...

Agreed. Would also like the refund for last year too while we're it.

I did something similar but rather than logging out I closed down the video screen and then clicked on the audio for about a minute and then clicked back on the video and it worked. Maybe you did the same, I could just be reading it wrong.

But anyway, like you, I was happy with the video and audio, it was very watchable and if it gets better someday, then it will be a pleasant surprise.

Can someone let me know how the quality is for the archived (not live) games? What is the audio? I'm not gonna fork down money unless I it's something I will be happy with. Thanks in advance.
