I don't think BU has played well to date other then a few quarters..maybe a half. I call em like I see em. So I'm not a good BU fan. I just don't get it. I'd match my 20+ years of loyal, unwavering support with ANYONE during those same years.
I see alot of those same fans that have been that have been rightfully critical of BU'spoor play here singing BU's praises for a great effort and performance. They have DESERVED both the criticism and the praise.
JL has been the most critical of these guys latley...must not be a good BU fan.
I'm telling you this getting labeled or called a non-fan just becuase we voice our opinion about the teams poor performance is getting REAL old with alot of posters. Its driving many away and thats sad.
This morning on the Jim Les show Jim said "after a couple sub-par performances" Sounds like the coach new they weren't playing well.
I agree dogs. I too have tired of the name calling and now the obligatory end zone dance.
Nice to see BU play up to talent and expectations. Good job.

That's great considering the odd time (1 pm Sunday), and the absence of students. And the crowd was into the game.???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Not what I'm talking about. Trashing posters/personal attacks cannot and should not be tolerated.
Giving and honest assessment and opinion about the teams performance is NOT "trashing" but often, when its done, those posters are chastized for not being true fans. THAT is ridiculous IMO.

Thanks NG.....
This team....like ANY team "earns" their praise and critical assessments from fans, coaches and media. If an individual from one of those groups can only offer ALL praise or ALL criticism no matter what the situation reasonably calls for that person loses credibility with others.
So if the same person that was critical of BU's poor play in the SIU-E game can't or won't offer praise afer the SIU game that person most likely has an agenda of some sort.
What I have seen is those posters that were rightfully critical a few days ago now offering the much warranted praise.

[QUOTE=MacabreMob;107193]Hey Dru - we are all 'good' fans. But I just love how some "true fans" only post when things are bad. I understand criticism is good - but when they only come out when things are bad - they become Negative Nellie
I agree...see my last post. That knife cuts both ways though wouldn't you agree? If a person chooses to drink the kool aid exculsively thats fine..in fact its great but don't begrudge those that are more realists then fanatics.I'm not talking about those few hit n run negative nellies either......MOST posters/fans/coaches that were critical of BU when they felt it was warranted (like Jim Les)are now offering that much deserved praise (again like JL himself has).

No one here that posts regularly only goes one way....
Maybe that occasional person who posts like 10 times a year, but there are also those in the same realm that only post positive things that much...
So really whats the difference?
Criticism is just that...
And no offense to you or any of the Mods here, but another person can not define whether you yourself are a true fan...only you can decide that...and being an optimist or a pessimist will not change that.

And a few were able to post maybe once after the blowout win over SIU with posts like "Why can't they be this good all the time", or "see, I told you if they just played the way I suggested, they would win".
Some posters' criticism goes way beyond the usual constructive criticism when they are disappointed, and becomes a cruel exercise if self-fullfillment, because they want to see this team lose, or do badly. Sorry, but those are not fans.
They post only when the team loses, and chide those who don't wallow in their same misery.

Sorry, but I think the truth may be that those with the insight were able to see this team has talent and is well coached, There have been those who's criticism of their play goes way beyond that into personal attacks on the players and coaches.
If a person chooses to drink the kool aid exculsively thats fine..
And as far as using terms like negative nellies-- It is a polite term that is highly descriptive, and not insulting. However, terms like "rose colored glasses", or "Kool aid drinkers" and others are thrown around here far more by those who wish to focus on the negatives. And in addition, they usually come with slams suggesting those who don't agree somehow aren't intelligent or realistic enough to see the real facts.
The one major difference in how this site reacts to the above differences is that the purpose here is to provide a forum for the fans to increase their enjoyment of being a Bradley fan. Being positive about a sports team is the enjoyable part. Sorry, but I do not see any purpose, and nobody gets enjoyment out of the repetetive, loud harang from those who want to be negative all the time. People are free to be as negative as they want, but, sorry, we are just not going to allow that negativity to fill these pages every time the team underperforms, and allow them to try to spoil everyone else's enjoyment.

To many, a fan is a fervent supporter of his team. It is derived from the term fanatic. So you can't have it both ways. You can't demand to called a fan, but then use the term fanatic as an insult to describe the other side, who you say aren't realisitic enough to see the truth.

Wow, you are begrudging terms like negative nellie, and then attack back by doing the same thing you don't like!

Also, I have to disagree on your first assessment a bit because most of the ppl you mention are coming from the PJS and are either ISU or SIU or UIUC fans and not even Bradley fans at all, but you yourself choose to let them onto a Bradley board.
Finally, I wouldn't exactly call pointing out the obvious as some do an exercise of self-fulfillment...its just what it is...its stating the obvious that some just can't see...whether thats because they're too close to the individuals mentioned or too far away from said situation...it is what it is...
Its like someone seeing something and saying something about your child...you don't believe it and may be in full denial, but if its true, then you have to eventually come back to reality...
I can not speak for other posters in whether ppl have stepped over the line...
BUT, what I can say is that MOST of us that may be critical at times are also able to give proper credit where and when credit is due...
Like for example, me giving you (DC) credit for running such a great board compared to others...and I myself also stated multiple times how well I thought certain players and the team in general played on Sunday...and that if we continue to play like a team we will be tough to beat.

What about the posters who have said that a certain 7-foot center is worthless and doesn't deserve to get off the bench? Or the poster who predicted days before the SIU game that Bradley's sophomore point guard would be dominated by the far superior SIU point guard? Or the many "wasted scholarship" posts every time someone has a bad game?
I could post many more, including the much more vile, personal attacks on players and coaches that have been removed. But hopefully, you get the point. Some people go way too far with anger directed at players and coaches, and say things that are unjustified, cruel, and hurtful, and many posters here have messaged me and said they are insulted by those kinds of posts. And I predict they will come back when Bradley loses their next game, or doesn't whip an opponent by enough points like after SIUE.
This board will continue to be run the same, and personal attacks and unnecessarily negative stuff will be filtered out. Hopefully, posters will realize that these kinds of posts detract from all of us, and hurt the program.

Also, I made a comment about Sam guarding Mullins if thats what you're getting at...
Sam didn't guard Mullins most of the game, which IMO helped us out on both sides of the ball greatly...Mullins could not score on C-Rob...when Sam guarded him, the 1st time he did, he took Sam to the hole and got an And-1...so that was my only point there....
Jim did a great job utilizing C-Rob's defense and Sam's offensive talent by matching him up on other players and letting his offense speak for itself...while his defense still left a bit to be desired, he played an overall solid game...
I just fail to realize why some keep bringing things up almost as if they were right about something...
The smugness from certain leaders on this board is just very tiresome...
Its not as though if we went out and had a bad effort on Wednesday that everyone else will just say I told you so...
Everyone just needs to let it go...many things were said, some factual, some opinionated...its a freakin message board....
If it were all hugs and kisses, why would anyone show up....
There is a gray area you know...

Way to deep....my point is who cares? If one poster wants to be critical SO WHAT. If others want to heap nothing but praise...fine. The ONLY thing I can control is how I feel and what I say.
I will discuss or respectfully argue with someone that has a differing opinion than mine but I will NEVER question their fanhood if they are, like I said, reasonable in the assessments.
IOW critical when warranted but also able to offer praise if appropriate. If a person is heavily weighted in EITHER direction they lose a degree of credibility IMO.
NO program or player is beyond criticism...as long as its constructive and within the spirit of college athletics IMO.

I think DC should continue to start. Not because he is better than SS, but because I think it's a comfort and confidence thing. DC seems to do better when he is confident and has people behind him, SS IMO, plays better coming off the bench, much like Ben Gordon for the Bulls a few years back. Sometimes who starts and who doesn't isn't really that important. They will both likely get an even share of minutes going forward, so let's set it up for them to succeed rather than worry about who's name is called during the intro.

"Are we sleeping on the Southern Illinois again? Yes, Matt Shaw and Randal
Falker are both gone, but Anthony Booker is a load as an incoming freshman,
Bryan Mullins and Josh Bone both return, Kevin Dillard was Mr. Basketball 2008
in Illinois, and redshirt big man Nick Evans is back. Rest assured, the Missouri
Valley Conference will have at least two NCAA berths."

In all reality back then, Bone starts and becomes their Tony Young of this year...without him they've lost another shooter...
There's been enough complaining on here for us not having Andrew Warren...why not any any mention of Bone who conceivably could be just as good...I know Bone was more highly touted out of h.s. and would have been one of their better players had he gotten along w/ Lowery and stayed...
Unfortunately Lowery has been souring in the minds of some of his talent...anyone who heard what went on during the Canada trip knows what I'm talking about...
Either way, Gottlieb's article just proves that its impossible to predict college basketball...
