If this program was headed down hill because he couldnt keep up any more I could see your concern but look at what they did this year. He has earned the right to do whatever he wants as long as they keeps bringing in W's.

......and for what he has done for Penn State, I would sign him to a 10 year deal!

          82 year old coach

Being a native Pennsylvanian and huge Nittany Llion fan.
He has recruits still wanting to play for him.
For an 82 year old, he has an estremely high energy level.
          He runs a successfull program.
He has given $6 million back to the school in donations
He has given his talented assistants more power.
          He is and icon!.
You betcha! As Gov. Palin would say, 3 more years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Well why not? Is this age discrimination coming from you? The guy can still do his X and Os, he runs a very clean program and develops great citizens. Papa Joe is what central PA is about, a hardworking under dogs that perseveres because he shows up every day and puts his heart into his job. Let's just throw him out because he's an old man. I love it that Joe Paterno is showing this nation that our senior citizens can contribute one hell of a lot to our society.

Considering he does about 4% of the coaching now, what does it really matter anyways?

As long as he's still getting blue chip recruits, he could be wheeled out in the coffin for all they care...
