Games like Butler at home are must wins. No doubt about it. If we don't win home games like this then we have to win the tournament or have an incredible run through the Valley to get to the NCAA and of course that's not guaranteed

lefty, do you think there is even a 10% probability that the Valley will get even ONE at large bid?
I don't, thus it is imperative to prepare even now, as in protecting Andrew Warren, developing DC, SS, and AT, and getting more experience for the new guys...
then battle like HE!! to win the NCAA and take the guaranteed bid.

            I gotta ask again....

Is there a purpose to now trying to develop guys who will be gone next year?

Sam is as good as he's going to get and he may not have talent, but he does work hard...

Collins at this point can be said the same for...we had to know what we were getting in to from recruiting him from JC...those are hit and miss...

But as I say again, why try and develop ppl who are leaving? Why not try and get AT some major minutes...he will have 3 more years here if he stays...

I'm not saying the season is over by any means, but look at what SIU did w/ Fay last year and how much better he is this season...

Thompson will never get there unless he gets more time...

Along w/ that, I don't understand how we are getting ahead of ourselves w/ a victory tonight and I heard someone say 8-3 blah blah blah...

Not only do we have to win tonight which is difficult, but we have to go to UWM still...and w/ the way the team is playing right now, you can forget being 8-3 as if we can't beat UMKC on a neutral court w/ this group, how do you think they'll fare in Milwaukee...

I think we can effectively develop guys who will be here next year while still using DC and SS. AT definitely needs more minutes though, not just garbage time at the end of a blowout.

I really hate to even get involved in an at-large discussion at this point because so many things have to/can happen that would make an at-large possible or impossible for BU to get. But I can't help myself.

My opinion on what has to happen for BU to get into an at large discussion.

                A) Probably at least 22 regular season wins.
                B) Run the rest of the Non-Con slate (Bracketbuster included)
                c) Top two finish in the MVC
                D) 2 wins in the MVC tourney (brings win total to 24)
                E) Road win vs a top 3 MVC team

Now my opinion on what can end any discussion of a BU at-large.

                A) Any more non-conference losses
                B) Any more than 4 conference regular season losses
                C) 1 and done MVC tourney (even if we win the MVC regular season)

Obviously this is my opinion only and don't claim to know the formulas that the committees use, other than the eye test, but it's gonna be real tough for BU to pull off an at large. Even with all those from the first list get done, it may still not be enough. Who knows though, If BU can get the 2 W's in uniform, and the freshman keep progressing maybe that kind of run is possible.

At-large talk is silly. It's not happening for this team or this league this year. But, I think when healthy we have as good of a shot as anyone to win the MVC Tournament. A strong conference performance and strong MVC Tournament should be our only concerns right now.

Dubl R 1 has it just about right, in my opinion. Another nonconference loss likely means that running the table at the MVC tourney is the only avenue to the NCAAs. In that respect, tonight is most definitely a must-win.

I truly understand the discussion regarding the conference and the tourney, but I would like to see this team play consistent defense, blocking out/rebounding, and with 40 minutes of intensity first. Until these things happen, the high finish in the conference and chance of winning the tournament is a dream. This team was 5 down to MSU at halftime on ESPN U television and came out the 2nd half with very little intensity. Consistent intensity has been an issue for years. If it doesn't change, mediocre finishes will continue. Let's hope we see 40 minutes of intensity tonight....win or lose!!!!!

Yes, I would love to have a team that got frenzied when it smelled blood, rather than falling apart when someone bleeds (gets hurt).

Sidebar: You do have to be impressed that this year we have not gone a typical 1-9 without our leading scorer and newly appointed center! In past years we would of killed to go near .500 when we lost a key player...

And felt no lead was safe, ever; no effort complete until the coach yanked them for the walk-ons because we finally blew them out. We almost seem to be too gracious to our competitors on the court. (and I do not think JL had that sort of rep as a player..)

Regardless of must win or at large or whatever, this is a very big game against as quality opponent as we will have the rest of this year. I for one am very stoked for this one.

All of you wear red, be loud and bring this one home.

Yeah..I think 10% may be a little on the high side. My thought is unless you win the tourney everything else has go just about perfect.

                            It's not impossible.....just unlikely

Tonight is a must win, the Valley appears to be a 1 bid league this year unless 2 teams are able to win a lot of conference games and seperate themselves from the rest of the pack. I really think that the conference will be much stronger and get multiple bids the next several seasons.

I'll tell you what we sure have a knack of giving the lead right back when we work so hard to come back. Within 5 points two times and it goes right back up to 16 points..
