Last season was the by far the biggest/most enthused student support we've had in easily 9-10 years. All 4 lower bowl student sections were packed virtually every game (except break games obviously), and many games there was a lot of student spillover in the upper bowl. I expect that to continue this year as long as we win games.

    Prior to that...

Student turnout was inconsistent...good for some games, bad for others. Largely that was due to several subpar seasons and very little hype or enthusiasm. But the last couple years have really improved, especially last year.

The student issue shouldn't have been a huge one as many students are from driving range, same holds true at BU and we also had the Festival of Lights Parade which (if you've never been to one) is monstrous and half the area families with kids seem to be there.
I think the lack of good parking does affect attendance at ISU games moreso than it would hurt football attendance since the BB games are all at night and generally in worse weather as January nears.

Maybe if ISU can solve their poor attendance problems they can give us help with our problem...lack of noise. We CAN be loud but its way seldom.

Right on dogs. That was what I always disliked about the PCC. No doubt it has everything to do with the "comfortable" seating. That stadium is too spread out. The seats should have been closer together with a steeper, straight up incline and a lower roof. Nothing could rock like the old Fieldhouse.

And I guarantee he'll be going for many, many years to come! He absolutely loves going to the games!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

You would think it wouldn't be a big issue...but the fact is that not all students come back for break games. Many do, but those are the diehards who are at each game no matter what.

What percentage of ISU students live within 30-40 miles of B/N?
My guess is that it is a substantial number. I know many Peoria area people whos kids have gone to ISU, including one of mine.

I have no idea on the percetage or even if there would be a way to find that out... but from my 4 year experience- there are A TON of kids from Chicago. My freshman year orientation, out of 25 kids, I think there were 4 that were NOT from Chicago or the surrounding area. Of the students who lived on my floor in my dorm there was probably 10-20% at most that were NOT from Chicago.

I am not saying that 80% is from Chicago... but it wouldn't surprise me if it was close...

From what I know during my time there, is that there actually aren't that many students that close to B/N...at least not within 30-40 miles anyway. Many, many, many students are either from the Chicago area/burbs, far western IL, or far southern IL. So that's anywhere from 90 mins to 2-3+ hours away. I'd say there is a much greater number of students from these areas than students from areas closer to B/N.

almost everyone I knew or was friends with were from the Chicago area. The city or North, West, South burbs. Not exactly right next door to B/N.

I had two close friends that I mostly hung with. One was from Danville and the other from Pekin. I also had some friends from the Centralia/Effingham/Mt Vernon area.

Everyone else in my major and minor were from 2-4 hours away. Keep in mind I was there in the late 90's when we were pretty darned good and drawing well.

The bottom line is that in my opinion and the opinion of a few others, there aren't nearly as many local students as you think. In fact In my majors I only knew one guy from Normal the entire time I was there and there were MANY in my majors.

If I were to guess, I'd say that 60% or more are from the Chicago area.

Yeah..I don't think B/N could significantly fill up a school of ISU's size
