  • Just for conversation

At what point does BU consider a med R/S or could it be a simple R/S for AW? Why risk a lingering foot injury to ruin his jr. year. Let it heal and bring him back 100% for his final two years.

I know its a long shot but can you imagine having him back for 5 games then hurting it again and out for the rest of the season.

All specualtion just for the sake of conversation.

I hear you Dogrus! I'm sure AW is biting at the bits to play and if healthy there will be no holding him back. I say we make sure he is 100% before we even start practicing him and then seee where we are at. We do need him now regardless of this great win tonight.

This is very similar to the Anthony Parker situation a few years ago. AP would have done well to redshirt. May have even turned him into a lottery pick. Sure would have helped the Braves to have him back the next year.
Basketball doesn't build character it reveals it.

As long as he does not play this RS option stays available. I suspect we will not see him until he's 110%

I don't want to act like I have not thought about this... so I will add my two cents.

I agree with DRU and comments made.

But I think consideration for a Medical Redshirt this early into the season is so speculative on so many things.

I understand DRU you are playing the "what-if" game with the "when-if" game.

I just don't think it is fair to Andrew Warren for us to play that game.

Let's wait. Andrew has to wait. So let's wait.

Bradley has a good staff and will take all the correct info into consideration and make a decision.

Ultimately - it is all about Andrew. Andrew, whether cleared to play or not knows his body the best. He knows what he can do no matter what an MRI or X-ray shows. Andrew is a very bright young man. I am sure based on timing and what he knows about himself he will make his own decision which is best for himself and then also best for Bradley basketball.

Get well 'Drew! Then let the rest fall in place.

Technically he wouldn't even have to apply for a medical redshirt as he could use a regular redshirt if he wanted to do so...

That being said, its ultimately the decision of Andrew, his family, and Marcus so we'll just take this thing day by day and see where it goes...

I remember Phillip Gilbert coming back too-soon from a foot injury and he was never the same! Also recall Anthony Parker coming back not being near the player before the injury! Every case is different...but if you miss 10 ro more games it might be worth healing up and coming back next year ....full strength! IMO I wonder if AW will heal up enough this season to be able to play the game the way he wants...seems to have a lot of set backs right now on the injury and I know AW and the staff will do whats right!

If this lingers into Jan, then you have a conversation. Until then his and the teams mindset should be he will return a 100% and will be ready to contribute.

I am not a fan of him redshirting, but on the other hand it seems pretty obvious this foot injury is lingering with pain and there could be a chance he wont be 100%, which means he might not ever get into game shape throughout this season.

My concern is the Valley gets hot and heavy in late December and It might be impossible for him to be healthy and ready by then.

Agreed...see my sig that I changed after last night's game...Ruff shouldn't have redshirted, but he definitely came back too early.

I was thinking along the lines of Cliff from Cheers on Jeopardy.... Name 4 people who have never been in my kitchen.

                      LOL!

I think if you play at all in the exhibition season, you lose the ability to 'redshirt' for anything other than medical reasons. Not sure though.

That being said, I would give serious consideration to redshirting AW this year. I guess you have to ask Andrew what 15 games this year would be compared to a full 30+ games next year with a year of maturity on our returning players, plus a potential senior year with a senior Maniscalco, senior Egolf, junior Thompson, junior Norris, junior McCain, junior Brown, possibly junior Wilkins, and sophomores Prosser and Knezevic. Man, projecting that 5th year senior year team with AW is downright scary.

Big picture program-wise, I think a redshirt might be the right move. I think we have the talent to compete in a very weak Valley this year, and an Andrew Warren here for 5 years could allow us to be a leader in the 'resurgence' of the MVC in the next two years.
                        Onward and Upward!

no he couldn't....he has already played in one of the exhibitions (Platteville), and only incoming new players can do that without losing their year of eligibilty.

This is just a guess but I think a decision will be made after the Michigan State game on what Andrew Warren plans on doing, that gives him 2 more weeks of healing plus we have 4 out of our next 5 games at home.

after the UMKC game I was 100% sure I wanted to redshirt AW. But after the last 2 victoires and seeing the potential for this team I am reconsidering my stance on this issue. The the other factor why I could see this being a more difficult decision is simply our chances in the valley with and without Warren.

Let face it, the valley is very open right now and there does not seem to be a team that looks like they can run away with it. SIU looks good during spurts but never can finish a game, Creighton loses to Arkansas Littlerock, Drake losing to Butler, ISU playing no one so far etc.....

With a healthly Warren for conference can this team finish in the top 3 and maybe even contend for a title? If we play like we did Wednesday night I dont see why not. Throw in Wilkins and Warren and I really like my chances. If Warrens injury lingers past the middle of January though it almost isnt worth it. You have to figure after Warren is able to start practicing it will take him a minimum of 2 weeks to get where he needs to be to be effective enough to play significant minutes and contribute how we think he can.
