Default Valpo beat writer seems to be suggesting referee bias

http://www.nwitimes.com/blogs/sports...a15574eeb.html

now, whether you think this is true or not, there are several analytical studies that suggest bias does exist among basketball refs (college & NBA)..
studies suggest bias towards the home team, the higher ranked team and even on the basis of race and even the perception of which team will generate more revenue should they advance.....

His assertion about being seen differently as the new team in the league is interesting. Regarding the rest, none of it would surprise me if true, especially a tendency to favor the home team. Something's got to explain why home teams win so disproportionally.

I know refs will deny it, but when it comes to calling a block/charge, for example, I have to think that thousands of people looking on might influence a person's judgement at least a little.

That's why this year's Arch Madness will be so fascinating. A lot of evenly matched teams, no home advantage, no Wichita State throng of yellow and their $$$ at risk should they lose. No excuses for the loser -- except for Valpo as the new kids on the block.

My wife and I made a promise to ourselves several years ago we wouldn't go to Arch Madness as long as BU was in the play-in game. It's just too disappointing. I'm really hoping to go this year. C'mon, Braves!

I'm with you on Arch madness, no go on Thur. play in game. Been a while since I've been. Now here's a news flash for you, OFFICIALS could care LESS who wins or loses and the thousands of people there have no influence in what the call will be. Do they make mistakes yes they do but more from making a call out of position or some times anticipating. Anticipating is a cardinal sin but it does happen but very seldom and even though me and Mr Rick Lehew disagree a make up call DOES NOT HAPPEN. This Valley tourney should be a good one and I think a THur. play in team could possibly win a few games and see a Sunday game. If we are a Thur play in game hope it's us on Sunday.
