Another scoop! I had been hearing rumors of an early-season tournament next November, and now we know where it will be. Let's hope everything falls into place, and this becomes official.

speaking selflessly, I wish it was one of our southern states. Getting my wife to go there are the proverbial two chances.

It appears this is a new event being put together this year. There is little known about it, so we do not know exactly where it will be held yet. If it is not in Nassau, and it's title does not suggest that it is, it is far less likely they will get fans to travel there.

The established tournaments that have been held in the Bahamas in recent years include The Battle 4 Atlantis, which is the richest (schools receive $2 million each to participate) and one of the best early-season tournaments involving D1 schools. It is held at the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island in Nassau.

And, for the past few years, there has been college women's tournament called the Junkanoo Jam held in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. However, last year it was moved to the tiny island of Bimini and played at a grade school (Gateway Christian Academy) due to hurricane damage to the resort venue in Freeport.

While waiting for Bradley to officially announce their participation in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase tournament Nov. 17-19, here is an excellent article by mid-major college basketball expert Kevin Sweeney with a bit more info about the participating teams-
ISLANDS OF THE BAHAMAS SHOWCASE TEAMS RELEASED

Kevin Sweeney's blog & twitter- worth following

And more information about the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase tournament-
We have heard that The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase is reportedly a tournament owned and run by BD Global Sports. Last year, BD Global Sports ran the Lone Star Showcase, held in the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas (outside of Austin, Texas). The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase is reported to be essentially the same event, but moved from Texas to the Bahamas. There is still no word on exactly where and in what venue the tournament will be held.

Last year's Lone Star Showcase website-
http://austin.bdglobalsports.com/

Apparently, this year it is being moved to the Bahamas. It is organized by BD Global Sports, an "Events Mangaement" company out of Lexington, Kentucky, that runs several college basketball tournaments each year, including the post-season Vegas 16 Tournament. They also act as agents for coaches and do public relations. One of their top clients is the University of Kentucky.

Here is a little bit more about BD Global Sports, which is owned and run by Brooks Downing, who was formerly a sports agent-

http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/J...lugged-In.aspx
https://www.linkedin.com/in/brooks-downing-b152a13b

The 2016 Lonestar Showcase last November included only 4 teams that travelled to Cedar Park, Texas (St. Bonaventure, Arkansas-Little Rock, Central Michigan, and Pepperdine), and it was won by Arkansas-Little Rock-

The games were live streamed on YouTube.com by bdglobal-
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...+star+showcase

The Southern Illinois Salukis were initially reported to be a participant of last year's Lone Star Showcase. However, the tournament organizer was unable to fill the tournament with 8 teams as they originally planned, so the field was trimmed to 4 and SIU dropped out-

nice review of all the teams....5 or 6 of the 8 teams ought to be good, solid opponents & contenders in their own conferences..

Now that Duquesne is officially out of the Bahamas Showcase and joined the Las Vegas Classic, there is an unconfirmed rumor that Murray State may be considered to replace them. That would presumably get the list of teams back to 8, so perhaps some progress might be made by the organizers and maybe we'll hear something about this tournament. So far, there has never been any official announcement by the organizers regarding the existence of this tournament.

Thanks for finding that info. This release by the Iona athletic department reveals more information about this tournament than anyone so far has released. Unfortunately, they do not divulge who the other participants will be. The original list of participating schools was was tweeted out by an Iona/Lower Hudson River Valley sports site twitter account 2 months ago, and included: Iona, Vermont, Bradley, Duquesne, Weber St., Coastal Carolina, No. Kentucky and Texas-San Antonio. But now we know Duquesne has pulled out, so we are still awaiting word who will replace them as the 8th school.
The Iona release only says:
"The remaining Bahamas Showcase participants will be announced by bd Global Sports soon but the field will feature programs from mid-major conferences across the country."

The dates were already known, Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19, 2017.
But what is new information is confirmation that the tournament will be held on the Island of New Providence, and in the city of Nassau. They also confirm what we had learned exactly 2 months ago that it is organized and sponsored by bd Global Sports, though they have yet to release any information about the tournament. The Iona press release also divulges that the venue for the tournament will be the Kendal G. L. Isaacs National Gymnasium in Nassau. That is located away from the beach on the south edge of the city of Nassau.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Th...=en&authuser=0

That venue is over 3 miles from the beach, and about 5 miles from Paradise Island, where the nicest hotels are located. It would be a difficult walk. So anyone interested in going might consider renting a car, or checking out the bus schedule. They have an efficient and cheap bus service all around the island-
https://www.bahamas.com/islands/nassau/getting-around
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g...portation.html

There are also taxis, but they can get expensive-
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g...ntal.Cars.html

The Bahamas use a different currency than the US (The Bahamian dollar), but the exchange rate is always 1 to 1. Most places take US dollars, but will always give change in Bahamian dollars.

Here is the bd Global Sports website; they have revised their website recently and removed all references to the Lone Star Showcase, which was held last year and which has morphed into this year's Islands of the Bahamas Showcase. But they still have no mention of the Bahamas event anywhere-

We are still awaiting official announcement about this tournament from the organizers (bdGlobal Sports) or from Bradley, but there is finally some additional news leaking out about the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase-
James Madison University just posted their 2017-18 non-conference schedule, and it shows that they are now the 8th team included in the tournament (replacing Duquesne who dropped out a couple months ago), along with the other known 7 schools.
Here is the field of 8-
James Madison University
Bradley University
Vermont University
Iona University
Weber State University
Coastal Carolina University
Northern Kentucky University
Texas-San Antonio

The James Madison website shows that they will play Northern Kentucky University in their first game.
And the Texas-San Antonio website shows that they will be matched against Coastal Carolina in their first game.
So that leaves only Vermont, Iona, or Weber State as Bradley's possible first game opponent on Friday, Nov. 19 in Nassau. Those appear to be 3 of the best 4 teams in the tournament, so that is good for Bradley.

James Madison had a poor season last year finishing 10-23 overall, and 7-11 in the colonial Athletic Association, good for a tie for 7th.

The beat writer for the Weber State men's basketball team just posted a good article with more details about the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase-
http://www.standard.net/Weber-State/...-revealed.html

He posted the Pomeroy rankings of the 8 teams in the tournament-
Bahamas Showcase Field by final 2016-17 Ken Pom rating
Vermont...................63
Iona.................11..117
Northern Kentucky...138
Weber State............179
Coastal Carolina.......207
Bradley...................217
James Madison........223
UTSA....................1251

By contrast,
a previous article had stated the RPI would be used for the seeding..and that comes from a quote directly from the Vermont head coach John Becker.
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showpost.p...3&postcount=13
http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/s...cky/372694001/

The RPIs look like this...a couple differences from Pomeroy
45 Vermont
84 Iona
85 Northern Kentucky
174 Coastal Carolina
177 Weber State
219 Bradley
258 Texas-San Antonio
257 James Madison (replaces 266 Duquesne)

But obviously if the known matchups are NKU/JMU and Coastal Carolina/UTSA, then that seems to hint Bradley is gonna get Weber State ...
...or maybe NKU, CCU, UTSA, JMU are all on one side of the bracket - in which case it appears we'd get Vermont. Time will tell.

BDGlobal still doesn't have any info on the Islands of the Bahamas SHOWCASE but are starting to put up info on other events
http://bdglobalsports.com/?page_id=2733

BUT now two different 1st game matchups appear to be set...

James Madison says they are playing Northern Kentucky in their 1st game - LINK
Texas-San Antonio says they are playing Coastal Carolina in their first game - LINK
So Bradley will face Vermont, Iona, or Weber State.
Iona, Vermont (who ended up with an RPI of 41 last year), and even Weber State - are or have been Top 100 teams this year or last.

Are there any Bradley fans who were planing on going to the Bahamas to watch these games?

I intended to go, but it takes time and preparation, as well as committing money to make reservations, and accommodations. I was hoping we would have all the official details and confirmation about the games, venue, etc, and some kind of assurance that this tournament was 100% locked in. I think it is a bit foolish to put money down or lock into reservations without a certainty that the tournament will indeed take place.

But for some reason, even though every other early-season tournament has confirmed and publicized their details for many months the bdGlobal Sports people who are supposedly organizing this Bahamas tournament (even that has never been confirmed for sure) has not revealed any information about the tournament at all, or that they are even the ones organizing it. The only few tidbits of information we have come from leaked info from a couple of the schools reportedly involved.

I can't wait on them any longer. So I am bowing out and cancelling my plans to go. I hope things work out for Bradley's sake, but recall that this same group, bdGlobal Sports, has a shaky record of promoting these kinds of events. They organized the Lone Star Showcase last year, then cut the field from 8 to 4, and cut several schools out of the tournament, including SIU. They have since deleted all mention of the Lone Star Showcase from their website.
They also ran the Vegas 16 postseason tournament in 2016 that could not fill their field of 16 teams, and had to cut the field to 8 teams. Then, after promoting that it would be held again in 2017, they suddenly cancelled the tournament altogether last spring. And, now their website has removed and deleted all mentions of the Vegas 16 Tournament.

Good luck to anyone going.

Interesting that James Madison will play Division III Bridgewater as part of this Islands of the Bahamas Showcase...
BUT the game is not considered a regular season game for Bridgewater - it is an exhibition game!
http://www.bridgewatereagles.com/spo...17-18/schedule

Likewise our game vs. Missouri S&T is considered an exhibition for them.

It is now just 7 weeks before the teams will head to the Bahamas for the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase, and we finally have the first official information from the tournament organizers.
They now have a website for the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase-
http://bahamas.bdglobalsports.com/

The website has a bracket posted, but they do not actually list or mention any of the teams in the tournament.

They do not appear to have a Facebook page, but they do have a Twitter page now, although they have not tweeted a single time, other than a couple seemingly irrelevant retweets-
https://twitter.com/BahamasShowcase

So I guess this is progress, though we still do not know who Bradley's first opponent will be yet (it appears it will be either Vermont, Iona, or Weber State- see post #11 above), and we don't know what time they will play on Nov. 17 or where any of the teams fit into the bracket.

The ticket price appears to be very reasonable.
This page offers an All Session Tournament Pass for just $40.
http://bdglobalsports.com/?page_id=2780

If that is indeed good for all 6 sessions (2 sessions per day and 2 games per session), that is 12 games for $40. That's a pretty good deal.

They have a link posted for the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Hotel, the Official Tournament Hotel. But the link is not working.
http://bahamas.bdglobalsports.com/#!/info

And as bdGlobal Sports has done with their previous tournaments, it looks like the games will be streamed live on YouTube

This is the tournament that Illinois State is in. I hope if any fans put their money down on flights or hotels, that they can get it back.

Bahamas bracket unveiled and as we had suspected, Bradley gets a great chance at likely the best team in the tourney.
Vermont could be a Top 50 team, they were last year (#45)
