Default BU commit 2017- Luqman Lundy

I have heard Bradley is recruiting another junior college point guard- Luqman Lundy, a 6'3" guard from Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. They were 23-10 this past season.

He averaged 13.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, and 5.6 apg this past season (2016-17).
He shot 43.2% from three.-

He has offers from Loyola, Florida International, and UT Martin, and has recruiting interest from several other mid-majors.

He is visiting Bradley this weekend.

He is originally from Atlanta, and graduated from Benjamin Mays HS in 2014. Here is an old video from his senior year in high school-

He did a year of prep school at Concord Prep in Concord, North Carolina for the 2014-15 season.

He is #11 in this team picture-

I predict a good chance one of the BU recruits will commit in the next few days.

Some sites say 6-3
Most sites say 6-4 - LINK LINK
Some sites say 6-5 - LINK

I can't find anywhere that says he's made any college visits yet...despite already having a few offers..
so he must think there's something special about the chance to play at Bradley!

some other juco names 2018 Makol Mawein. 2018 Tray Jackson, 2018 teammate of Elijah Childs, Christian Bishop and Mike Lewis - Duquesne transfer who was their best player as a freshmen, 2018 Tremell Murphy, Nike Sibande, Jermaine Couisnard, Dinero Mercurius, Marvin Bateman, 2018 Keyshawn Justice, DeVante Carter

Congratulations to Luqman Lundy, the newest Bradley Brave!
Lundy visited the Bradley campus this past weekend, and liked what he saw.

Bingo!

Sometimes inviting 2 similar recruits to campus simultaneously for one available scholarship and challenging them that the first one who commits will get the scholarship is an effective method!

Dave Reynolds tweeted-

http://www.pjstar.com/sports/2017032...d-luqman-lundy

BU recruit Luqman Lundy is Brian Wardle's 1st junior college commitment at Bradley. Other offers from Loyola, UT-Martin and Fla Int'l.

To clarify, technically, this is not quite true. Coach Wardle landed one junior college recruit last spring. Jojo McGlaston was recruited from and graduated from Diablo Valley College, a junior college in Northern California, in 2016. He had also played 2 seasons at Utah State prior to attending Diablo Valley College.

Any more action? Are you suggesting another current player might be leaving?

Are there any videos of Lugman Lundy from Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa's last season?

I am not suggesting it will happen, but I am suggesting it is always a possibility & that it HAS happened in past seasons...

In 2015 Warren Jones didn't leave until August, Xzavier Taylor didn't leave until the END of April
Also in 2015 both Reggie Lynch (ISU) and Max Bielfeldt (Michigan) didn't decide to transfer until late April.

In 2013 both Jalen Crawford & Shayok Shayok waited until April to decide to transfer - LINK

In 2010 Eddren didn't leave til April - and so it goes....
The school year academically is still more than a month from completion, so possibly someone else before then might choose to leave.
Your guess is as good as mine, but kids leave for two main reasons...
One of not enough playing time, the other is they think they can do better at a higher level.

Welcome to Bradley, Luqman!

I see he led NJCAA Region II in steals (love that!) as well as minutes played.

We have a pantry full of high quality guards in DB, Jayden, DLO, Pitt, Nate and now Luqman. I look forward to seeing how Coach Wardle utilizes them. Do you think we'll play three guards a lot?

Nice writeup on Luqman Lundy-
http://www.pjstar.com/sports/2017032...lcome-addition

Here is a little more background on him. Sometimes it takes persistence for an athlete to finally get to Division I, and Luqman Lundy appears to be a good example. Though he now lives in New Jersey, he had a nice career in high school at Benjamin Mays High School in Atlanta, and we already posted a highlight video that was put together his senior season in 2014-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0FwTwUJqPU

Luqman even personally wrote Facebook messages to the assistant coach at George Mason (Chris Kreider) and also the head coach at GMU Paul Hewitt in 2014 to try to get noticed-
https://www.facebook.com/luqman.lund...80?pnref=story
https://www.facebook.com/luqman.lund...62?pnref=story

When a scholarship offer didn't come, he spent a year at Concord Prep Academy in Concord, North Carolina. There is little information available on how he did at Concord Prep, but apparently there were still no D1 scholarships offered.
So he decided to attend junior college at Northern Oklahoma College- Tonkawa.
His freshman season at NOC-Tonkawa (2015-16), he was not a regular starter, and he averaged only 4.0 ppg, but shot 53.8% overall, and 50% from three (5-10)-
http://region2athletics.com/sports/m...uqmanlundyz04b

But then his sophomore season (2016-17) he was the primary point guard, started 33 out of 33 games for the team that went 23-10 on the season, and he averaged 13.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, and a terrific 5.6 apg, while shooting 48% overall, and 43.2% from three (35-81). Note that the top assist leader in the MVC this season was Paris Lee with 5.0 apg, and nobody on Bradley had more than 2.7 apg. Bradley as a team only averaged 11.3 apg. He also had a terrific assist to turnover ratio of 3.1.

As this past season progressed, Luqman finally received his first scholarship offers from Tennessee Martin on Feb. 27, then FIU on March 14, then Loyola on March 16. A couple other schools came to check him out, but didn't offer. But the only visit he made was to Bradley these past 2 days, during which he received a scholarship offer, and he was impressed enough with Bradley and their tradition to commit before leaving.

So his persistence has finally paid off. I think he will be an effective player for Bradley, and obviously our coaches believe he will help this team.

A couple quotes from Dave Reynolds' article:

"I'm a bigger guard, so I can see the floor and make plays," Lundy said...."And leadership. I think that's one of my best qualities. I like to be around people and I love to play basketball. I think Bradley is a place that loves their basketball."

Lundy....said he was drawn to the school because of "the tradition of Bradley and the culture."

"They have a bunch of guys who care about winning. I wanted to be a part of that culture. We hit it off right away. I can't wait to get there this summer."

BTW, Lundy is a good student and was a qualifier out of high school.
Here is an article about him receiving a scholarship award for his "strong work ethic, loyalty, unselfishness, and a passion for basketball"-

The one you mentioned..

...but I also saw where he was honored with Student-Athlete Award twice during the season...

also check this article out

And we know Luqman's dad is an accomplished pro football player AND professional jazz musician (see that article just above)
But his mom's resume isn't too shabby either..
She holds DOCTORATE degrees from two different institutions and is also an ordained minister and
currently teaching in the DOCTORATE studies program at New York Theological Seminary

This recruit sounds like he could be a good player for our team. He should contribute to the culture that Coach Wardle has stated he wants for Bradley.
