Default Bad news for ISU - All-MVC Reggie Lynch is transferring

to Minnesota

He would have dominated the Valley - but now he wants to see how he does in the Big Ten...
hopefully he's not making a Marcus Arnold-like mistake...

it appears he is going to have to sit out a year then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

btw - expect to see a whole lot more of this since all the Big Ten and other power conference schools
are offering not just full athletic scholarships - but they also get thousands of extra dollars ($2000 to $5000 per year and MORE)
& even spending cash on top of that as NCAA rules now allow that...

Now that Reggie Lynch has left ISU & is going to Minnesota.....

here's an interesting rumor.....see how this turns out...

it is strongly rumored that head coach at FLORIDA Billy Donovan will leave to coach the NBA OKC Thunder...
then the rumor on the Minnesota boards is that the prime candidate to replace Donovan would be for FLORIDA to offer their former assistant who is now Minnesota's head coach, Richard Pitino....

If Pitino then takes the Florida job - which would be a strong possibility - then Reggie Lynch would instantly be playing for a different head coach...

I guess Josh Cunningham is better than Reggie Lynch....

this guy ranks the Top 20 players sitting out the 2015-16 season (due to transfer)

Reggie Lynch is ranked #13
Josh Cunningham is ranked a bit higher at #9

Someone had jc ranked as a top 100 recruit also. We know how that turned out.

agree- rankings are good for stimulating conversation and debate but we've shown time and time again how inaccurate they can be...

ISU forward Devaughn Akoon-Purcell and Coach Dan Muller have some slightly unflattering things to say about the departed Reggie Lynch-
http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/col...220fda097.html

"Reggie was a great player, but I feel he slowed us down a lot," said Akoon-Purcell, who is ISU's leading returning scorer with a 12.8 average. "I feel we'll move way faster now that he's gone and will have more fun.

Changing one position in the offense makes a "big difference," according to Muller. "We'll put in longer, athletic, quicker guys," said ISU's fourth-year coach.

sure, I get it - Jim Les did the same thing when he went to the 4-guard offense -
replaced the big guy with smaller, faster guys!
There were games last season where Muller played 3 or 4 guards about 30 minutes each while Lynch played less than any of the guards (generally due to foul trouble) - they didn't win all those games LINK LINK LINK LINK

ps- I saw comments from some ISU fans who thought this was good, like team-building to be attacking Reggie in unison...but I don't
It is terribly petty, negative, destructive, focuses on the past instead of current or future...
Reggie was a friend & teammate to those guys and did what every one of them would do if they had a chance to play in the big time...
for them to be ripping him is not team building.
The players ripping each other is reminiscent of some fans who attack others who are good fans just because they wanted to go another direction.

ISU's Reggie Lynch and Drake's Joey King both dumped their Missouri Valley teams to go to greener pastures with the sure hope of starring in the Big Ten and getting more exposure.

But, Minnesota, where Lynch is sitting out and King is now playing and averaging 12.4 ppg, has become the laughingstock of the Big Ten and one of the disappointments of NCAA DI basketball.

Illinois plays at Minnesota today - the Illini are really bad at 1-5, but Minnesota is 0-7 in the Big Ten and haven't beaten anyone since before Christmas!

in another Big Ten column - Purdue is good but might "flame out" and not make the NCAA...and this writer says it all boils down to their guard play..
But then what the hey....they bank on yet another MVC reject...Johnny Hill!

More bad news regarding former Redbird big man Reggie Lynch. He left ISU and transferred to Minnesota a year ago, and would have become eligible this fall for the Golden Gophers, but today he was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, jailed, and held without bail in the Hennepin County jail. He was also suspended from the Minnesota team.-

Minnesota has had a lot of suspensions in Richard Pitino's short tenure....

Never good when things like this happen for anyone involved. Hopefully it gets sorted out and the proper judgments are made. Lynch did not have a good reputation around campus as far as the ladies go at ISU. Heard from many people that he was often a little creepy.

not so sure we should be repeating what we've heard from "ladies on campus"..
I, too, hope he gets things sorted out and that it turns out OK...

but do we not see a pattern happening here??

It was obvious 10-15 years ago - that unless campuses took this kind of thing seriously, handed violators over to the police & justice system and started nailing guys who were guilty of rapes and attacks, that it would explode into the problems we have today.
Instead I have seen many, many reports detailing how only tiny number of on-campus attacks ever get reported - and even fewer get prosecuted..

The anything-goes crowd has coddled their kids & opened Pandora's box and allowed their kids whatever they want to do in college & and now they seem stunned that this is happening -
One of the most egregious cases was the one at Saint Louis. There were rape allegations and the victims came forward demanding justice & wanted charges filed - but the campus folks swept it under the rug and one of the accused even returned to finish up his basketball career.
Then you got FSU protecting their star guy and shaming those women who were attacked.

I guess someone knows someone - and things are looking up a bit for Reggie...

Reggie Lynch gets released from jail...no charges filed..... "investigation continues"
"Investigators could still pursue charges..."
- hinting that just maybe they are not currently inclined to do so ...

Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino suddenly finds himself defending himself...
"Pitino far exceeded budget for private jet travel
..internal U audit reveals Gophers coach spent triple his budget in second season.
...doubling his budget in his first season, and tripling it his second season...

In addition to the private jet spending .. basketball programs spent more than
allowed on hotels, private cars, birthday or holiday parties, meals and valet
parking. The audit even flagged “unreasonable” spending by Pitino involving
“multiple” rental cars returned without full gas tanks and instances of parking
at the airport even though the team had rented a bus.."

Maybe you should change the title of this thread to Good News for ISU.
