Default Deontae Hawkins will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury

Former ISU Redbird and now current transfer at Boston College...
He might try for the Sam Singh 6th year waiver but since his first "redshirt" was due to academics, NCAA has never allowed such a 6th-year waiver before

The injury happened in the game at Nebraska - in the first half - and was said to have "crumpled to the floor ... with a non-contact injury to his right knee.
He drove across the lane and elevated. He came down awkwardly on his right knee and lost the ball, lying on the ground as play continued down the court.
He would walk to the locker room under his own power and return on crutches, not to return for the remainder of the game."
.

Then he limped to the bench and came back out of the lockeroom after halftime on crutches and didn't play in the 2nd half.
...Then he did not play Saturday vs. Hartford

prior to the injury Deontae was playing well and had three consecutive double-doubles and was averaging over 13 ppg and almost 10 rpg

This article says they will try to get an extra year for Hawkins - but I would be surprised if NCAA violates their precedent.

This is almost the exact same situation as ISU's Tarise Bryson, where he sat out ineligible his first year at ISU, then got his 4th year of eligibility and got injured completing his final season. When appealed and asked for a waiver to play one more season - he was denied an additional year. The reasoning was that he missed his first season due to academics which was NOT something outside of his control. Had it been 2 years with injuries- it would have been a different story - as we saw with Will Egolf & Sam Singh.

It is the first half of NCAA Rule # 30.6.1.2 (b) that will hurt Hawkins' waiver request
