Murray State gets a $2.5 million dollar donation for their Athletic Department from a family of long-time donors.
https://goracers.com/news/2026/5/19...ives-2-5-million-gift-from-the-rudolph-family

The article notes that:
Over the last two years, Murray State has raised a school-record $42.5 million in support of new facilities, initiatives, and championship resources. That total was made possible by 15 seven-figure gifts, which also amounts to the most in department history.
The $42.5 million is committed towards the department's bold, comprehensive $100 million fundraising campaign, Leading The Pack, which was created to further position itself for the future by investing in student-athlete success and wellness, revenue share, and competitive resources and world-class facilities.

It seems that the majority of the donated money will go toward their football program, but basketball will no doubt receive a big share, too, and the "revenue share" referred to is the payment directed to the athletes. So don't be surprised if the top players on other MVC teams and elsewhere, end up at Murray State eventually.

Saw recently, maybe in the past couple weeks, that Murray will be playing Georgia Tech in Nashville. No mention as to who's paying whom.

As far as the majority of this donation going to their football program, I hope this won't be a case of throwing pearls to swine. Murray's football program is really, really bad.

This makes me think they're trying to follow the path of Missouri State and move up to a $tronger football conference in a few years.

Yes, as Braves4Life speculated, though they are not saying it, their long-term aspirations are to elevate their football program to an FBS level conference and be able to get a share of the huge revenues the Bowl Subdivision generates. In addition to the increased revenue from being a part of the FBS, schools usually see an increase in corporate sponsorship, alumni donations, and national exposure, which translates to higher level recruiting. It won't happen immediately, since their program is not very good right now, but they have already started their campaign to improve their facilities, and have plans for much more.

Maybe they've noticed the writing on the wall re: the MVFC now that NDSU has moved up to the Mountain West.

Here is another donation-for-NIL story. The money is getting ridiculous-

Georgia men's basketball gets $10M from Adam Wexler, founder of PrizePicks-

The money is being donated specifically to the Georgia men's basketball program, so it is not intended to benefit Georgia football, women's basketball, or any other sport.
Prize Picks is an online fantasy sports website. Wexler is a graduate of Univ. of Georgia, and his father was a football and track athlete for the Georgia Bulldogs.
