Free Beers Starting Tomorrow

It's crazy that we almost have to beg students to show up. We filled two full sections when I was a student and all that we had was a shuttle and sometimes free t-shirts. I mean, college students are poor - I would have loved a chance at free food and drink no matter when I got it.

To have a student population that we have and sometimes have basically zero students at the game is crazy. Even a core 50 or so would make a huge difference.

Murray State's stadium is way across campus and they get students to show up. Belmont's student section is loud and packed. Even Valpo has grown to have a pretty good group from the games I've watched.

I appreciate they keep trying.

If there is free beer, I wouldn't know that from this flyer. This says free drinks. I don't think I would ever assume that means free alcohol.

It's strange that arguably one of the best fan bases in mid major hoops has hardly any support from students. Like what is there to do in Peoria for them that other schools don't have? When I was in college (IL Wesleyan) in 1995-'96, I would have attended almost every Bradley game if I had transportation to PIA...and I didn't even go to school there! (I attended almost every IWU home game with a couple hundred students in attendance each game - they won the D3 title the following year).

When I first started to go to Bradley games at The FieldHouse there had to be at least 1500 students attending those games. I do not think it was because the games were on campus. To me it just seems the interest is no longer there and it has not been there for a very long time. Could some of this be because BU has a huge amount of their enrollment from international students? I hope these promotions to get students to attend these last 4 games works but I for one am not counting on it.

I think it has more to do with computer geeks and nerds.

Most students cannot relate to today’s “student athletes”. Most feel the players are not only getting tuition, but are paid money. Anything that can bring some students to attend some games is worth attempting.

Are frats still big on campus? Maybe an attendance competition between the frats would bring some students.

Unfortunately there has been a decades long war (since 2000) on fraternities and sororities on campus. The participation numbers are down greatly. But there is a group of concerned alums that are starting to fight back to help get some positive momentum in the Greek life.

Truly disappointing and likely more than half have no clue that we are in contention for a league title and have made the NIT 3 straight seasons!

I heard a rumor that the BU students are turned off by loud music and readily available alcohol. Good thing the old timers still can shake and shimmy to some heavy beats while putting a few down the hatch! ;)

Did I just transport into an alternate universe?
Beam me up, Scotty!
